@Mamaof2: I never used to but I started! Do it! When's the next time you'll get to try the new place andddd eat the food while it's hot?
I'm actually going to do a little solo shopping today and have lunch by myself. Luxurious!

I go to restaurants alone sometimes, but I typically go to more casual, fast places, so I don't feel as awkward eating alone. In your case, I think I would wait to go to a tapas place with someone, just because you typically order several items and then share them. I wouldn't be able to try as many things or eat enough of what I ordered to make it worth it to me. But that's just my opinion!

I have. These days even when people have company everyone is on their phone anyway. I ask for a seat where I can people watch. The bar is also a good place to sit if you want to strike up a conversation with a fellow diner. Eating alone is a lot quicker than eating with someone else, which leaves time for a solo trip to the movies! Yeah mono-date night

I have when I was travelling a lot for work and would arrive the night before meetings. It was weird the first time, but I got used to it.

I have! I haven't had the opportunity lately but being solo wouldn't stop me. I might bring a book or like @Mrs. Lemon-Lime said, sit at the bar and people watch. Have fun!

I do. I usually bring a book to read and enjoy a glass of wine while I'm waiting I my food.

You've seriously never eaten at a restaurant alone!? Of course I would. I don't eat out anymore, but I used to in college or when I moved somewhere new. In the days before phones (and I still don't use my smartphone out of the house)!

I don't like eating out alone, but I would rather have lunch alone than dinner alone.

I don't think I would for dinner, but totally for anything else! Also it might be tough for tapas since you're supposed to share and that way you get to try a lot of dishes?

Yup! I'll bring a book or a magazine usually, but I will eat alone. Especially at lunch. This always reminds me of the Friends episode about how Rachel can't eat alone, haha.

The opportunity doesn't come up often, but eating alone in a restaurant doesn't bother me a bit. I usually bring a book or some work to keep me busy.

I used to travel a lot for work and did this all the time! If it's a really fancy place, then I'll eat at the bar.

Yep. Lots of times. I'll probably do it this afternoon. As long as I have some reading material I don't care. Sometimes I sit a the bar, and I end up chatting with people or the bartender.

I don't have the opportunity as much these days, but I have eaten alone and I enjoy it.

Absolutely - I love dining out alone! Just bring a book or practice your "don't bug me" face for the annoying people hell-bent on "rescuing" you from your peaceful solitude by making small talk.

I never did before kids, but now when I get the chance it's like a vacation. Go for it!

I use to go out to lunch all the time by myself, even on weekends. I usually would read on my kindle or just play on my phone while I waited for my food.

@Mamaof2: totally do it! I used to eat out all the time when I traveled. That made me comfortable enough to eat out alone whenever I want. It's so nice. you can sit there and enjoy the restaurant, the food and the ambiance without having to talk to anyone, cut anyone's food or even talk. Sometimes it's nice just to sit and enjoy being waited on by yourself.

I did it all the time when traveling for work. Bring a book and order a glass of wine. Enjoy!

Love going out to eat solo! I use to do it all the time when I had to travel for work. Now with a toddler who doesn't enjoy eating very much, eating out solo is such a treat these days.

I do. I take a book. DH works in a restaurant so I got used to eating where he works alone. So it's not as weird to go other places by myself now.
If you don't feel like reading and there's a bar, you might get lucky and find a nice bartender or other solo eater to talk to.

I do t know that I'd eat out alone at night if I was home-- id rather veg out on my couch and relax! But I eat out for lunch quite a bit, or if I'm traveling I eat alone any meal

Sure, I have no issue doing that although I like to share tapas so might pick a different venue.

I have. I'm usually on my phone so its not so bad. Oh, yeah, eating at the bar can help, too.
