I'm a second grade teacher and I have a handful of books that I read every year that make me a little choked up, but I usually maintain my composure.

Today I was reading Owen and Mzee: The Language of Friendship (nonfiction) to my class. When I got to the part where Owen the hippo's whole family died during the tsunami of 2004 and he was left stranded and alone, I suddenly got teary. I had to stop a minute and say "I just feel so sad for the hippo!" I told DH and he think's I've lost it.

What children's book makes you choke up?

P.S. The hippo book has a happy ending if you were worried!
