There are eat by, or use within expiration dates when it comes to food. If a food has expired, I usually toss it.
How closely do you follow expiration dates?

Like it's the law. I throw stuff out the day it goes bad. My husband is way more relaxed about it.

DH and I both follow the dates. I might eat it if it is only 1 day over, though, if it doesn't smell or taste weird.

I'm a freak when it comes to these, I hate when anything is expired, hubby is way more relaxed and goes by taste/smell.

If it's food in the fridge, it goes in the garbage. If it's in the pantry, I'll still eat it.

My husband is nuts about it, he won't buy stuff if he notices the expiration date is in a few days. Every once in a while, he will go through the fridge and toss stuff, loudly exclaiming "This mustard is a year over it's date!"

I'll toss it if it's a sell by. It creeps me out. But in line with your other post.... I've never had food poisoning so I guess I'm doing something right!

Once it is past the expiration date, it gets inspected and smelled, but I'll still use it, up to a week, depending on the food.

It depends on what food it is, if it is milk, eggs or meat than I follow the expiration dates religiously. I sometimes throw milk out before the date if it doesnt look or smell right to me. If it is something like a bagel or bread I'll still eat past the date as long as it smells, looks and feels fine.

Now that I have a Lo I throw things out if they're past their expiration date.

We do the sniff test on most things, if it seems okay, we'll eat it. We don't often have food go past due though

Essentially how @Rubies put it. If it's in the pantry, I'll eat it if it's not stale. If it's in the fridge, it gets tossed. We lose a lot of condiments this way...

We go by look/smell/taste. It gets tossed for any of those but I don't usually look at sell/use by dates except during purchase. If a piece of fruit or cheese has a bad part in it I'll usually just cut out the spoiled part and eat the rest. My husband's even more relaxed than I am.

My hubby is a stickler for following the expiration dates on food. I, on the other hand am a bit more relax.

We will throw it out the day of the expiration. I will eat left overs up to a week or so after we made it. Where my hubby will throw it out after a few days. Some times he asks how long ago we made something and I lie to him because I know he will throw it out lol

I'm with MrsBells, depends on what it is and I always examine it if I'm not sure. My hubs will usually just eat it anyway but I'm a lot more careful, especially during pregnancy!

I follow those dates pretty religiously. With the exception of half & half (for coffee). That one gets the smell test.
