We never had career day at my school. My dad (who is a geologist/geophysicist) came to speak to my 6th grade science class once though and I was very proud.

A classmate's dad was a firefighter at the firehouse a few blocks away and they came by in their truck for a short visit.

I don't, but my husband has a badge and could share some stories about the shady stuff he's uncovered.
My fav career day profession was the glass blower who came every year. His kid probably graduated from my elementary school years before I came there, but he faithfully came back year after year.

My job sounds really freaking cool because I work with weapons. The reality of it is kind of boring, LOL.

Nope.... I teach kindergarten at the school she will go to. The kids will be like "old news!"

No -- explaining web marketing to kids would not come off exciting or interesting
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Nope!! Borrrrrrrring. Even when I tell adults what I do now they give me the *blink blink* stare. lol!

I will when I become a nurse!! DH is a math teacher, I guess being a teacher is pretty cool
eggplant / 11716 posts
nope. Every kid at school already knows about their school librarian (or rather, think they know...but I'm going to keep it a secret as to what we REALLY do all day).

Hah, not at all. If they *really* needed parent volunteers, or my child *really* wanted me to go, I suppose I could drastically spin it to be somewhat interesting, but it would have to be a huge stretch from what I actually do!

DH disarms bombs for the military. He would OWN career day.
Im going to be a nurse.

@loveisstrange: He WOULD own career day! I would have loved that as a kid.

My actual job is not cool or fun at all, but I am in fashion so I can prob put an interesting spin on it if I must.

Nope, I manage records. It sounds about as thrilling as watching paint dry. I enjoy it though.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
I think so! I work in higher education with students from around the world.

I'm a psychologist so maybe? I think it could initially appear that talking all day is sooo boring, but I have my fair share of entertaining stories I could share to liven things up, haha.

My job is lame and there's no way to make it exciting to kids. My husband's job technically wouldn't be interesting, but he could bring in lots of big construction equipment, which always blows kids' minds.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
I feel like you have to have a job that has some kind of tangible quality for kids to be into it, like either a uniform or some accessories, lol. My accessories are excel spreadsheets, they're not cool, I know.

Um, not unless those littles dug hefty federal legislation like ERISA, FMLA, the tax code and insurance regulations. So, probably not.
I do have some hobbies that might be "interesting": making miniature food out of polymer clay and making stained glass pieces.
pomelo / 5220 posts
definitely not.
The best career day dad from my childhood was in the FBI and took us to Quantico, VA to the FBI training center and we all got target practice sheets with real bullet holes in them... so cool! (I'm sure they don't do that anymore...)

I would teach them how to break boards with their hands, so yeah, if my daughter had career day right now I'd totally rock it.
That's not what I do all day, but it's a cool part of working here.

I have an awesome job, but once he gets old enough, he'll probably be totally embarrassed by it!
@loveisstrange: There's no competing with that!

Nope, I'm a graphic designer. If DH could talk about his super-secret project, kids may find it interesting (software developer). Though in this area probably half the kids' fathers will also be developers.

No LO yet, but I work in juvenile corrections so I've been asked to speak at my nephew's school's career day -- as a deterrent!
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
Nope! I write technical documents every day. Business sales. Booooring.
pomegranate / 3845 posts
@yoursilverlining: lol I think we have the same job!
I could probably put a nifty spin on it!
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
I SAH so I doubt LO would want me to go, but I know for sure he would take his dad. But, I don't think our schools have a career day so it won't happen.

Well I mostly sit in front of a computer and/or grade papers all day, but I am an astronomer. So yes... kids will think it's pretty cool.
