Our apartment is on one level and all wood floors. In general, I vacuum once per week. Now that the weather is nice, we constantly have the windows open and I notice that the floor is a bit dusty and needs to be vacuumed more often. There is also construction right in front of our building, so it is adding to the dust. We've been considering getting a Roomba type vacuum. Do you use one? Do you think it is worth the cost? How often do you use it? If you have a non-Roomba brand, which brand did you buy? Any tips on using one? Thanks!

We have a Roomba and we love it! We set it so it runs just about every day. We have two dogs so we have lots of pet hair. It may not do a 100% but it keeps it under control. I still go along baseboards and corners with a handvac about once a week.

@katsupgirl: it has a sensor and slows down before hitting any obstacles. Our pets were kind of scared of it at first but now they dont care about it.

Love our roomba. When DH wanted one I thought it was stupid. We already had a days on what do we need with another one.
Um, it's awesome and I was totally wrong. I only have to pull out the big guns once a week and we have a long haired dog and two cats.
It has seriously made my life easier. I'm like Mrs. Jetson now. -
Can it go onto and vacuum area rugs? Or just wood/tile floors? Thanks!

We have a shag rug and it does not go onto it or work on it but im sure it would go onto smaller carpeted surfaces.

@oliviaoblivia: @Lindsay05: how often do you use it? We don't have pets, so don't have the hair problem. I'm thinking 2-3 times per week to really keep the dust down?

We have a roomba and it's a pain. It is forever getting stuck and bumping into things. My husband loves it, so I tolerate it for him.

I've thought about a Roomba, but I thought with all the animals, it wouldn't fare very well. It's interesting to see in this post that it's been doing well with pet hair. We just bought our Eureka, though, so I think I'm stuck without one.

@lamariniere: we turn it on every other day or so. It's great for dust and pet hair. I still have to clean the corners and in tight spots. I'd say it gets 90% of the mess, and as far as I am concerned that's fabulous.
...and by days on I meant dyson. autocorrect is stupid.

We had a Roomba. If you don't mind it taking up to like an hour to vacuum, it works well since you can "set it and forget it". As others have said, you'll still need to go back with a regular vacuum once in awhile to get corners since the programming in the Roomba is a lil weird. It will vacuum area rugs depending on the thickness. It'll get stuck if it's too thick. Or if it's too thin, then it'll suck the rug up and get stuck too.
