Just curious. We're moving soon and our new city doesn't have this. I was surprised since I thought most places do this now.

We do! We even have a rewards points system where they'll scan a barcode on our recycling can, and the truck weighs it as it picks it up to dump it into the truck. We then get points based on the weight of recycling we have. We can then go online and get some pretty cool things!

@2PeasinaPod: that is awesome.
Our town just started in the past few years and it's great. I am amazed how much recycling we have each week.

I was really surprised when I moved to louisana to see they didn't do it. Although there are some cities that do. And I think in our neighborhood we could choose a different trash pickup company who does.

Yes, but it's not through the town, we have a private garbage/recycling company.

Yup. Everybody here in the PNW recycles. We even had recycle bins in the hallways if my college dorm.

I used to live outside of the city limits (so county) and they didn't have recycling pickup for those in my old neighborhood. But you could take recycling to the landfill for free (you just had to tell them your zip code). It was kind of a pain but we still recycled because we just couldn't throw away recycling. It just felt wrong!

We just moved yesterday and didn't, but the house we are moving into has it and I'm soooooo excited. We used to have to make a huge trip once a month to the recycling center.

Yes! I love it so much! I didn't mind taking my recycling once a month to the plant, but it definitely got out of control in my entryway and I had to separate it all. Now I don't!

We do now living in WI, but didn't when I lived in TX. The nearest recycling center was really far away too. I grew up in WI and recycling has been the law for so long I was super surprised not to have easy access to recycle in TX.

I want recycle rewards!!! We recycle everything we can and even our 4 yo knows too.

My inlaws didn't when they lived in a small town in GA. So weird.

Yes, but it's only once a month. We have a ton of cardboard from Amazon deliveries and diaper boxes, so we often have to take loads of that over to the recycling center in between monthly pick ups.

We don't, but we do have somewhere to bring it each week and that place isn't too far away. I'm just annoyed as they don't take the fruit containers that strawberries and blueberries come in, so have to throw those away.

No, we have the option to have it, but it's an extra few dollars a month on top of the trash pick-up fee. We have bins in our garage for recycling that we will take to the recycle center ourselves, though.

@2PeasinaPod: Such a good idea!
@tofuwad @lulabee @avivoca: yes, I feel terrible just throwing things away so I'll have to make sure we drop off our recycling to the center
@sleepybear: can you recommend any bins? I was thinking about just using a giant storage tote
@twodoghouse: we have so much cardboard from Amazon too! It gets out of control quickly

@winter_wonder: I know! It pains me when I have to throw something away at work (business recycling is so different from personal recycling). Usually I take it home with me, but if it's especially messy I just trash it.

@winter_wonder: we actually use those big storage totes (I think the 30 gallon ones) - we have a bunch because I like to use them when we move so I leave a few out to sort recycling into, then we can throw the lid on and head to the recycling center when they're full.
I also have a reusable shopping bag I keep in the kitchen to put recyclables until I get a chance to sort them in the big bins - so that I'm not constantly running out to garage.

@twodoghouse: maybe that's why we have so much recycling! I'm currently on maternity leave and am doing way too much online shopping including regular Amazon deliveries!

Curbside recycling is free, but we pay for trash collection. We already have the smallest trash bin they offer, but I wish there was a smaller trash option and a bigger recycling one.

Yes, recycling is free and is picked up every other week. We pay for trash and composting, which get picked up weekly. All three services are mandatory.

We have recycling and compost pick-up every week, trash is every other week and is limited in the number of trash bags we can put out. We also have yard waste collection every other week from spring to autumn. I actually really like that they limit the trash because it forces people to really be aware of what they're throwing away and to recycle/compost whenever possible.

Yes, but it's not the city. Our homeowners association contracts with a recycling company.
