DS is in preschool part time 3x a week. I usually let the director know if he is going to be absent. Today I kept him home because he's had a fever and cough (our whole house is sick!) but didn't get around to e-mailing her.

Yes, for legal reasons and out of courtesy. Our preschool is just like a normal school and if a child is not going to be there, they need to know so that there is never a mix up of a child not being present when a parent thought they were.

Yes; I call to let them know. I have no idea if I'm supposed to or not!

Yeah, they asked to be notified so they aren't waiting around and wondering if we're just late. I usually call and leave a voicemail for the director!

Yep. DD goes to an in-home care provider, and if I forget to call she calls me to check on us!

Yes. Last week, DS #2 was absent the entire week with RSV and strep. DS #1 still managed to go to school for most of the week, so when he was dropped off, we updated the staff on DS #2. My DH commented that he thought that they missed DS #2 last week because they kept asking about him.

We generally do, out of courtesy. It's not a requirement for us, since we're not in state-funded prek

LO is in full-time daycare, and we do let them know if we'll be late or absent.

Yes. If we somehow forget to call/email, they call us to find out where she is.

Yes. Or if we are running late. I call the room or text the director.
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
yes we have to call the front desk if she isn't coming in or if we're arriving past 9

Yes. The want to know to ppan their day and staffing. Technically they ask for two weeks notice if we miss for a non-illness. Over the weekend Grandma asked for LO1 for the week. We just told them when we dropped off LO2. Meh- we pay the same anyway.

Yes, but one of the kids' teachers will usually call me to ask where they are before I get a chance to call. My kids are usually one of the first dropped off right when they open.

Ours requests that we all by 0800 if the child is going to be out. It's important for staffing.

I usually do but I forgot last week and they called me!

I've called and not called. They pretty much said it doesn't really matter. We pay anyway!

@mrsjyw: Yes...and they have a policy of calling if we aren't there by 9am. I don't want to lose that privledge...kids forgotten in hot/cold cars freaks me out.

We call. I'm not POSITIVE that it's a requirement, but it probably is. If I'm not going to make it by 9am, I call and let them know too. They change up their staffing based on how many kids are there so it's both courtesy and I'm guessing I would get a call asking where they were if I didn't call first.

I always call or email because I would want them to follow up if we unexpectedly weren't there (and they do!)
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
I would probably email - the one time I brought E in an hour late, they were all worried about us!

Yes, I call. If I don't call and LO isn't in by 9, they will call you.

He goes to an in-home so I always give her a call if we won't make it. Just out of courtesy and she also worries.

Yes, they prefer that we call, and because of E's food allergies, we always do. We've also been sick since yesterday I hope you and the boys get well soon!
pomelo / 5791 posts
Yes, they like to know. They also like to know why the child is staying home, in case it's something that's going around and highly contagious (like HFM)

Always! If we don't call within an hour of normal drop off they always call us. one time DH was supposed to do drop off and didn't tell me he decided to keep her home. I freaked out when they called to ask of everything was ok because I just pictured her sweating in the backseat of DHs car because he has forgotten to drop her off. I think it's a good safety measure for them to call if they haven't heard from you!
