More time with my ILs because they live 15m away and my family lives 6-7 hours away.

Inlaws!

Hands down more time with ILs. I think the theory is more accurately stated as it depends which person is closer to their family. I'm not particularly close with my family, while DH is close with his, so mannnnny more plans are made with them.

We spend way way way more time with dhs family. They live 2.5 hours away, my family lives 6 hours away.

Dhs fam comes to see us once a month and we go see them once a month. My family come maybe once a year and we go there once a year. It's just impossible to go now with 2 kids.

I enjoy spending time with dhs family more.

Way more with inlaws. They are also closer. If they were the same distance we'd probably spend time with both families equally.

Dh's family because they live closer, my mom lives on the other side of the country. If they lived closer though, we would probably see my parents more.

It's pretty tied. We spend equal time with mine and his.

BUT, with the other family members in my husbands family, it's definitely more skewed toward the wife's family. There are several young LO's on his side of the family, but ours is the only one at functions regularly. If it's our family vs. the wife's family, the wife's family always wins. It's definitely a point of contention in my husbands family.

I'm the same as you. I spend more time with my parents because I work remotely and I'm home a lot more than DH is. We see the ILs usually once a week for an afternoon/dinner time. Dh maybe has dinner with my parents actually spending QT with all of us, a couple times a month? Though he might see them in passing, picking up DS, etc.

I think it's pretty evenly cut as far as spending QT. Obviously, it's natural for me to find it easier to spend time with my family but I also enjoy our weekly dinner with the ILs too.

We do see/attend more extended family functions on my side vs his extended family though. (They're further away).

Technically, it’s a tie since both live away from us. I would say we spend more time with my in-laws because they live within 4 hour driving distance. My in-laws are more fun, and I don’t like my mother’s husband.

We spend more time with my family, but mainly because they are more accommodating. They'll come to our house to see the kids instead of making us trek to them. It's more convenient, so it happens more often. We also see them more because I don't feel bad asking my mom to come over and help me clean the house. I'd feel weird asking my in-laws to come over to do chores!

ETA: We also spend a LOT more time with my brother than we do with SIL. My brother has a lot of the same interests as both of us, so we like getting together to catch up on Game of Thrones or play board games.

Both of our families live on the east coast. When we go home, we pretty much split up. DH visits all of his family and I visit my family. We'll meet up for dinner or plan a day event to see each other's family. When the babies arrive, I'm sure we'll have to make more of any effort to stay together as a family. His mother did put her house on the market and she will be moving to Florida later this year. So that will probably make us see my family more. He still has other family and friends in the area so we'll just do a lot of traveling to see them all.

Hard to say because we've never lived in the same country as our families while we've had kids. But before, we used to see our families separately really as DH wasn't a fan of spending time with mine. I really enjoyed spending time with his though as the sister-in-laws who married in were fun. It will be interesting to see what happens when we move back with kids. It will have to be more evenly split and DH will either have to make more of an effort with my family or miss out on some time with the kids.

DH's family is mostly local so we see them most often. My family is strewn all over the state and country, but when we see them it is for a longer amount of time because we vacation there. My mom lives with us so our kids see her everyday. MIL is local and usually stops by once a week.

His. They live nearby. Mine are retired and spend all their time vacationing

@Rainbow Sprinkles: same issue here!! they just got married almost a year ago and so far they have spent all holidays except new years with her family. i think its a point of contention between them so they're trying to split future holidays better.. i think the problem is that she has a huge extended family where as our fam is only immediate family so our fam just gets the shaft! when we saw my mom on mothers day the first thing she said to me and my sister was, "i'm glad i have daughters!" hah sad

We spend more time with my in-laws since they only live 30 minutes away (my parents are ~6 hours at one home, 11 hours at the other).

I'm really close to my family so I'd rather spend time with them (but also really get along great with my in-laws so no issues there).

My family, because we do a lot of cottage weekends all year round along with holidays and birthdays and other get togethers. I'm trying to make more of an effort to see the in-laws, though.

I said my family, but it's marginal and maybe sometimes it's more 50/50. If we could, we would spend more time with them too.

When I lived in Indiana we spent VASTLY more time with them. DH has no desire to spend time with them now though for the most part since we live in FL. We enjoy when his dad and stepmom visit, and we enjoyed seeing his aunt and a few other relatives when we were in town (and I'm very close with his sister) but overall he wanted to move to get away from them!

My family are easier to visit (place to stay, car) and we have a HUGE family with lots of relatives which makes getting together fun, and it's also easier for my family to get together, probably because DH's parents are divorced whereas my dad passed, so there's no conflict between sides there.
