Our trash company supplies us with trash bins (compost, trash and recycle) and we don't wash them out but I think we should. The compost one is getting gross.

We do it once a year - in the summer. It usually starts stinking sometime around July so if it stinks, we clean it. It's a pain!!

No, but I'm pretty sure the lids get left flipped open by the truck often enough that it rains in there once in a while.
ETA: How are you supposed to clean the bins that are as big as a person anyway?
