It took me a long time to get on board with this trend - but it's just so cozy how can you resist?
Do you wear athleisure clothes? Where do you buy them?

I have an Adidas company store right near my house, so I've made some really great scores there. Stella Mccartney for Adidas, in particular. Highly recommended.

Yes, lulu, target, old navy, dick's sporting goods, gap and kohl's.

wtf is athleisure? Work out clothes purely for comfort reasons?
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
Does that mean wearing workout clothes when you aren't working out? Then no, I don't. I feel weird going out of my house in yoga pants or pajamas. It feels too intimate or something to me.
grapefruit / 4418 posts
@blackbird: lol my thoughts exactly. I think that's what it is though. My mom and sister are alwayssssss in workout clothes but never work out haha. I had no clue there was an official name for it.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@blackbird: yeah it's some big trend in the fashion industry - jean sales are down and yoga pant sales are up - but yet no increase in the number of people actually doing yoga lol.
So brands like athleta, lu lu lemon, under armour, etc are really big right now for "athleisure".
I wear a lot of leggings but that's my extent of it so far.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@Mrs. Pen: Ohhh gotcha: yeah I love yoga pants otherwise and I don't do yoga in them. I do have plenty of Athletic wear that I'll wear both to the gym and around town as long as its clean, though.

I have a few Gap Fit shirts that are so comfy that I wear them when not working out. Otherwise, I save the gym gear for the gym.
Leggings and jeggings are really comfy anyway so I wear those on a daily basis.
honeydew / 7586 posts
Yep! I wear skinny sweats pretty frequently. I SAH, so I pretty much only wear real pants when we leave the house. Even then, if we are going to My Gym, Target, the playground, etc. I'll rock skinny sweats.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
I had no idea there was a name for this, but yup, this is my style. I joke that I dress like I'm going to work out every day yet don't belong to a gym. I SAH and like @Ra: when I go out, it most often to the playground or something when I need to be able to squat or kneel anyway.
When I put jeans on now I get "I'm so fancy" in my head every time.
bananas / 9973 posts
yup! lol...I think this has been my style waaay before it was a "trend." I like to be comfy and always worked in pretty casual settings. Since SAH, forget about it. Yoga leggings ftw! Lulu is my go to. I will pick up slim sweats anywhere I can find them. Lucy and Zella are similar to Lulu. And I am interested in trying out Kate Hudson's new line, Fabletics.

Never! It's kind of culturally unacceptable here unless you are actually working out. I never did it anyways when I lived stateside.
coconut / 8430 posts
I wear it around the house but I put on jeans when I go out, even to run errands.

I wear leggings all the time, but not as pants, and I never wear yoga wear unless I'm actually working out.
pear / 1750 posts
Yes, but at this point I think yoga pants are ubiquitous - everyone wears them for comfort! Right now I wear them out because they are the most comfortable pants for my growing belly - more so than maternity pants.
pomelo / 5678 posts
@lamariniere: likewise.
I just never would.
I will wear leggings under a dress (like tights) with boots, that's as far as I would go. Sporty/ athletic isn't my style.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
Yesssss. I pretty much lived in yoga pants while on maternity leave.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
I wear leggings but they're not from athletic wear stores. I wear yoga pants around the house. Most lulu lemon stuff is for my work outs. I have a fleece coat and jacket I wear for everyday wear. I typically don't like athletic wear fabric for anything but the gym.

No. I get the appeal, comfort-wise, but I hate how Americans are SO casual all the time - like, how hard is it to put on some jeans? However, I will say that I relax my standards a bit for pregnancy.
honeydew / 7230 posts
This is almost all I wear at home. However, sometimes taking care of 6 month old twins is a workout.
I do put on jeans when I leave the house, but it's always the same pair of jeans, and Blake spits up on them every time!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@meredithNYC: I think that as long as that casual-attire doesn't spill over into professional areas like work, weddings, etc - then it doesn't matter so much what you wear on your own time.
I was just at a wedding yesterday and counted five people wearing jeans- bugs the crap out of me!
I hate jeans though, since having my son. They're so uncomfortable to me.
pomegranate / 3401 posts
I only wear workout clothes to workout! Otherwise I'm in jeans and a tshirt when playing with my LO going to the park, etc.
nectarine / 2358 posts
Am I the only one who thinks ups pants are totally not comfortable for yoga? I always catch my one leg on the pants leg of the other when trying to sweep through. Them again I haven't done yoga in all over a year and I'm not coordinated. And no I don't generally wear yoga pants out because I'm a plus sized lady and people would be like girl you lyyyyin.
nectarine / 2784 posts
@Mrs.Panda: I much prefer wearing cropped pants to yoga class for this reason!
I have a few workout tops that are nice enough to wear under a cardigan or something and not look weird but generally I don't purposely wear athletic gear out in public.
honeydew / 7622 posts
Yes at home (which is most of the time). If I wear leggings out of the house its with something that covers my backside. Usually I get fancy and wear skinny jeans if I leave the house ;). I am a really casual dresser in general. Mostly Gap, Banana, J Crew.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
Yeah, on weekends, I don't see the need to dress up. I am in dresses, tights and proper shoes 5 days a week, so on the weekends, unless I have an event, I am dressed leisurely.
pomegranate / 3388 posts
Nope -- only when I'm actually coming from working out, or heading somewhere to work out. This used to mean I was actually in athletic wear for a decent chunk of the weekend, but not as a fashion statement. Now that I have a child and no time to work out... not so much.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@meredithNYC: I don't think jeans are that comfortable honestly. I also hate how they've become the default pants for people.
pomegranate / 3314 posts
@looch: I don't find them super comfortable, either, but I'm just a curmudgeon in that I don't feel like we should necessarily always be super comfortable anyway - like sometimes decorum should trump comfort. Jeans used to be considered excessively casual and now that's no longer the case so I'm like, what's next? Obviously it can always get worse - i.e. pajamas in public.
All that said, I live in a part of the country where this is possibly less of a thing? When I am back home in the Midwest I am often shocked at how people will dress in say, a nice restaurant. It makes me feel like the odd one for actually making an effort.
pomegranate / 3314 posts
@Mrs. Pen: I mean, it's not something that bothers me a ton (unless the clothes are really slovenly or something) but generally I think there's a time and a place for athletic wear.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@meredithNYC: I guess I differentiate between the grocery store and a nice restaurant...if I am going to do errands, like I did today, I don't dress up. The real reason is that I don't want to change 100 times a day, I just can't be sitting around the house in $100 jeans when my son is sick, wants to go to the sandbox, my husband calls from the front yard and needs help putting leaves in a bag, etc.
It's totally different if I am actually going somewhere that requires a proper outfit though. I didn't wear jeans for almost 15 years post college, so I like to have options! I can't remember the last time my husband and I went out for dinner but I assure you I didn't wear jeans!
pomegranate / 3314 posts
@looch: it could also be because I'm at home, I don't want to head down the slippery slope of always dressing way down because I don't want that to be my norm. My jeans are also cheap, so I don't worry about messing them up! But for the most part, when I'm out and about with LO or running errands it's skinny jeans, boots, cardigan type of deal. By no means "dressed up" but I guess put together? I had the kind of mom who refused to even go to the grocery store after her runs at the YMCA because she thought she looked a mess!
Jeans are not my typical out to dinner wear, either, but I MUCH prefer seeing a nice pair oh jeans to sweats/yoga pants.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@meredithNYC: I definitely agree about pajama's in public - I hate that. I would prefer yoga pants/leggings over that any day.
@Mrs.Panda: I prefer yoga leggings or just leggings in general for actual yoga, or any working out really.
Just for reference - this is the type of "athleisure" that I like:
eggplant / 11716 posts
I don't. Mainly because it isn't my style, but also because it just doesn't look good on me--I end up looking really gross and sloppy. I'm sure a few people can pull it off without looking sloppy, but I am not one of them.
I type this as I lounge around my house in skinny jeans, a button up shirt, and a boyfriend cardigan. This is my "lounge wear" unless I am literally in my PJs right before going to bed or right after waking.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@Mrs. Pen: that looks put together, though! People can look like slobs in anything nice-have messy hair, no makeup, whatever.
I'm rocking under armor sweatpants today. All I've done today is get a bikini wax, though.
blogger / pomegranate / 3044 posts
At home, absolutely. I have left the house (to run to the store) a handful of times in leggings/sweats/yoga pants, but I always feel gross.
