When LO gets sick I usually put the humidifier in her room, but honestly, I don't notice much of a difference in her coughing with or without it. Do you feel like the humidifier actually helps?

Depends on the kind of cough. A humidifier aggravates my son's asthmatic cough.

We actually stopped using one because it broke and after that we noticed my son stopped coughing. Not sure if it was a coincidence or not. Plus we never cleaned as often as we should have which may be why he had the cough.

Nope - we use humidifiers in the winter strictly for moisture - its gets so dry in the house and the kids noses get all crusty!
For coughing I swear by vicks on the feet!

My ped explained that it just keeps things moving, so all the mucus etc. doesn't just harden up. So it doesn't prevent a cough, but maybe helps get rid of a cold faster? My LO seems more comfortable when I use it, but I don't often.

I have a cool mist humidifier running all winter long. When she has a cough I also put vicks on feet. I think her coughs tend to be a dry tickle cough so it definitely helps her. For her it's definitely worse if I forget to turn it on!

@mamaof2:, @rsmom:, and @regberadaisy: do you do the vicks on your LO's feet under socks? Just during naps/sleep or during the day, too? Thanks!

@mamaof2: Thanks! My little guy has had a nasty cough for a few days, which made traveling for thanksgiving super fun

Just to follow up. LO has been sick for the past few days with major congestion and cough. He woke up multiple times a night the first two nights, then I used the humidifier and he didn't wake at all...I wasn't truly a believer until now.
