Today our kids' summer camp invited the parents of the 3-4 year olds to spend the morning with their kids at the local park. Of course our daughter got really excited, and so Bee is there now. I'll be going to our son's Family Day later this week.

Our son's Pre-K and our daughter's preschool also had regular Family Days, and our son's Kindergarten had a monthly Family Friday. That's in addition to parent-teacher conferences, school recitals, etc.

I can understand why public schools would want to throw Family Days, and we do learn useful stuff about school then. But I feel like summer camps and daycares kind of screw working parents with their Family Days. It's like the worst of all worlds: I don't get any work done, plus I pay to spend time with my own kids.

Fortunately my son has gotten more understanding about family days as he's gotten older and understood the concept of work. I may stop going to some of these next year (we'd keep going for my daughter until she's a bit older too).

Does your daycare/preschool/camp have a Family Day?
