I'd love to figure out how to make my hair look ok without trying it (mostly due to laziness, but it's also hot out)!

I will dry just the roots straight then let the rest air dry with a little finishing spray.

I don't ever blow dry my hair. I let it air dry unless I am specifically going somewhere that I will need to curl my hair for. My hair dries straight. So I usually don't do anything to it.

Yes, but I got a perm to make it happen. It dries in waves.

@youboots: Does this help prevent your hair from looking flat? That's always my problem when I don't dry it.
@shubro3: how do you prevent it from looking flat on top?
@mrs. Pickle: did you ask for a specific type of perm or just explain to your stylist you wanted it wavy?
honeydew / 7622 posts
@winter_wonder: no mine is kind of wavy/frizzy so it keeps me from looking disheveled.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@winter_wonder: I took her a few pictures and she picked the type. She gave me two options for the size of the rollers and I picked the larger one. I thought it was too curly at first and thought I had made a mistake! A couple of days later it loosened up like my stylist said it would fortunately.

@winter_wonder: I don't! I'm a SAHM so most of the time it ends up in a pony. Lol. I usually just let it be. It's pretty flat most of the time.

I spray my hair with a set angling spray straight out of the shower, detangle/comb with a wet brush, dry my bangs, and give the rest of my hair a 30 second blow dry around the front, flip my hair upside down and blow dry it that way for 30 seconds. My main motivation for quick drying is to save time, but my hair looks decent, and I have noticed less breakage since I stopped doing a full dry every day.

I have naturally curly hair so I pretty much exclusively air dry unless it's winter and freezing out.

for me, air dry = fluff ball. it works a bit better if I put a mousse or some product in it.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
I have wavy hair, so I always just put some curling gel in it, scrunch it a bit, and then let it air dry.
pomelo / 5573 posts
When it's longer, if I let it air dry I get beachy waves that look pretty good. Right now it's to my chin and if I let it air dry it flips out in different directions all over my head - not great.
pomelo / 5791 posts
I have wavy hair as well. I put some stuff in it and let it air dry every day. I prefer to blow dry it, but the heat has really taken a toll on it over the years. I do straighten my bangs however.
pomegranate / 3314 posts
Not really, but since I'm a SAHM I usually let it air dry anyway.
pear / 1961 posts
I think it can, but it's not like I can just do nothing and walk out the door. It still needs some sort of product and/or tousling (?). And it looks like crap until it's 100% dried (that in-between stage is terrible), which takes a long time!

Mine is dead straight, so it looks pretty much identical regardless of whether it's air-dried or blow-dried.
kiwi / 554 posts
Nope! Mine is chin length, thick and a bit wavy and just flips out randomly when let it air dry. The only way it looks good is if i blow dry and straighten it, which is a lot harder to do now with a 3 month old. I'm trying to grow it out so that I can at least throw it up in a ponytail if it's bad.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
no way jose!! It gets super fluffy and frizzy if I let it air dry. Even DH gets embarrassed about it if we go out and I let it air dry. lol
I'm thinking about trying this thing my hair stylist recommended. Takes 1.5 hours to do, but will make my hair stay straight and non-frizzy. Air drying is highly recommended with it too! I just need to find time to get it done. I'm also scared I'll love it too much and want it done all the time, which could mean $$

Not if I wear it down, but I only rarely do. My usual is to let it partially air dry in the morning, then put it in a knot or braid. Looks fine that way.
pomegranate / 3392 posts
I hope it looks ok because I never dry it. It looks awesome when it's blown out, but I never have the patience/skill to do that for myself.
apricot / 360 posts
I rarely blow dry my hair anymore. I have straight, fine hair and it actually looks a little fuller if I just let it air dry, so I prefer to not dry it!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
Mine does not at all... in hs/college I used to be able to put a curl gel in and go, but now its like half straight/half curly and looks awful.
I have to blow dry and straighten if I want it to look good.
nectarine / 2765 posts
Heck no! I've gotta wash and dry it every day. It's wavy/curly so I also use a straightener on it too. If I don't dry it, it's a hot mess. And not a good hot mess.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
If I don't style it at all- hell no! My just washed curls with a little serum to keep the frizzies away looks like a wet jerri curl. If I take the time to seperate and put my hair into at least 8-12 big twists, let it dry a bit & then pull it apart that can look nice. That all takes at least 3 hours, so I keep my hair flat ironed straight instead.
pomegranate / 3595 posts
No! As the last girl who cut my hair said, it's not wavy but it has a "bend". So I either dry it or put it up wet--key to solo mornings with two kids before work has been figuring out things to do that look halfway decent!
watermelon / 14467 posts
It does. I have curly hair though, so I plop it on top of my head with a tshirt for 5-20 minutes, depending on time, run some curl cream through it, and go. I only blowdry in the winter and only enough that it's damp but not sopping.

@Smurfette: Add in some great poof and you have mine!
I am jealous of all of you ladies with amazing hair!

I have curly hair so always air dry. the less I touch it (after putting in products when it's wet) the less frizzy it is
pomegranate / 3921 posts
Nope. My hair is stick-straight and thick but really fine. It mostly looks horrible if it air dries but I do it anyway, because....pregnant with a toddler. Haha. I actually braid it wet at night sometimes so it's wavy the next day. My coworkers call it my T-Swift hair.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@Mrs. Pickle: Gah, I've always wanted to do this but am too much of a chicken. I've never done ANYTHING to my hair (color, perm, etc). How often do you have to re-do it?
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@mfa_lady: I had never done anything to my hair before either. I got it done in May and will probably go back in September. I usually go see my stylist every four months for a cut. My hair grows fast.

I have a pixie cut, so yes. It's the only way I can deal with my hair these days.
grapefruit / 4466 posts
I'm curious for all those that air dry, how long does that take? I feel like even if I towel my hair thoroughly to try to get the water out, it still takes a few hours to air dry. I'd love to blow dry it less, but I can't show up at work with noticeably wet hair and if I wash it the night before and sleep on it wet, it looks gross. Am I missing something?
pomelo / 5084 posts
@winter_wonder: yes but only bc that was the goal of the cut! My stylist is very pro air drying unless it's absolutely necessary to use heat. So he cut my hair with certain layers so that it looks ok leaving it wet (it's wavy). It still looks BETTER blowdried and straightened but I never do it anymore with an infant!
pomegranate / 3516 posts
I think it looks fine. It's fairly curly so I finish it with a coconut frizz serum and some gel. It always looks fine the day I wash it. It gets a little frizzy overnight but I can usually run a flat iron over it and just have looser, slightly more out of control curls. It looks good dried and straightened but that takes way too much time! I also have a satin pillowcase to reduce frizz and I use sulfate/silicone free products which has helped.
persimmon / 1328 posts
Yes... my hair is chin length and curly. I wash it once a week and put on some curl cream and let it air dry. Day to day I do nothing to it at all, I might run my fingers through it before I leave the house but that's it. I don't even own a hairdryer!
@periwinklebee: it depends on the air temperature but mine dries v quick, less than 30 mins I would say. I feel like different textured hair dries differently, mine is really non-porous!
