LO out of the blue said she wants Barbies for Christmas. I was never into Barbies as a kid, I was always into baby dolls. Does your LO play with Barbies? If so, what are some good ones to start with?

My LOs don't have any but I recently bought a nurse Barbie for a friend's daughter.

I was obsessed with Barbie's growing up and would play with them and my bff for hours and hours on end. I saved all my Barbie dolls, clothing, gear, etc. for my future daughters. Well, much to my dismay, DD played with them for a couple days last year and that was pretty much it. Just not into them! In hindsight they were terrible body image role models for me and I should be thankful that DD is not into them.
Sorry, doesn't really answer your question! I would say just buy the one that is the most appropriately dressed

Nope. She doesn't even know who or what Barbie is.
I preferred Jem as a kid. I'm dating myself.

Yep. I brought my Barbie Dream House and 2 ancient barbies down from the attic and my son has a brand new pink corvette to drive them around in. I love that he can play with anything.

My 3 year old has one Disney Princess Ballerina Barbie, and one Chelsea doll (the smallest little sister of Barbie)...What she really likes are these dolls that look like Barbies, but have bendable cloth covered bodies with no joints (meaning she can't break off a leg or arm if she pulls it the wrong way). They look more like little girls than traditional Barbies, which I really like. I think they originally came from Target or an educational toy store of some sort. They were a hand me down from my nieces and I can't find them anywhere online.

Yes, not thrilled. She got a bunch for her 2nd Christmas. Sigh. Wish she got Calico Critters. They are so big, she doesn't even like playing with them. We have the princesses, one with the dog, a beach one, a ballerina, Elsa. All gifts. Except the Ken doll. I finally broke down after 2 years and got her a male addition at a garage sale.

My DD has been playing barbies since she was 3 (she's 9 now and brings them to school to play with her friends at recess). DS will play with her and her friends. He's pretty cool They like that he likes being the boy barbies. We started with Princess/Prince barbies (Bell & Beast, Rapunzel and Flynn etc.)

Not yet, but I am considering giving her my old Barbies to play with at some point.

My 7 year old has a few and she doesn't play with them at all! Maybe at some point she will.
