My husband choose the cameras, we have drop cameras in all the rooms. We didn't do much research but DH is very opinionated so he helped make a lot of decisions.

I did all the initial research on major gear purchases and then brought him into the process once I had contenders to choose from. It helped get him to focus and it also helped that a lot of things I really did want his input because we would both be using the product.

For instance, stroller was most expensive and I researched models and types and compatible car seats and then once I had one or two in each category we went to BBB and tried them out together and weighed our needs, narrowed down the type of stroller we wanted, and weighed the pros and cons with the associate. We ended up going with one I hadn't seriously considered until we got there (UP Cruz) but because I had narrowed down the choices before we got there he didn't get overwhelmed and zone out in the showroom. Instead he quickly eliminated jogging strollers, wanted something sturdier than an umbrella, dismissed the Bugaboo bc the fold and assembly was too complicated, and decided he would rather have an infant seat over a convertible. Then we looked seriously at the top two we had boiled it down to (Vista and Cruz) and we agreed on the winner. I think if I said I definitely wanted THIS one he would have let me do whatever I wanted but because he knew I wanted his input he was more into it. And I'm glad bc he uses the stroller more than I do now and he still loves it.

I don't think it's fair for him to have specific wants and then not put any effort into it. But perhaps you can take his desires and then narrow down the field to 3 options and ask him to make the best call because you are unsure - and those wifi phone camera systems do all have really mixed reviews. My husband's big thing with the stroller was he is tall and wanted something where he wasn't hunched over so I made sure to show him that feature in the choices and didn't include ones that didn't have an easy telescopic handle.

I did all the research. For the most part, he went along with whatever I liked. He was pretty adamant that we stuck with the BOB stroller because it's the smoothest and he liked how versatile it was for the price. He hated the price tag of other strollers that we couldn't run with!

I'm not sure there's much he's done research on gear-wise but he's been incredible researching stuff related to LO's diagnosis. He just doesn't care about gear (and honestly doesn't use any of the gear anywhere near as much as I do).

He doesn't know what to research for off hand, but if I mention something he looks it up too. He researches pregnancy stuff on his own all the time. So far I'm noreal .

Nope. He just questions the price of everything.

He researched the camera when we were ready to buy one (we waited until we were ready to move LO from our room to his own room) and helped with car seat and stroller research. Oh and the gate for the top of our stairs. But mostly I do the research on baby related things.

For the most part. I do the research. But he has had a few things he got really opinionated on and those he did research.

It's funny, DH researches everything into the ground, but when it comes to baby stuff, he doesn't! I have free reign. He knows when it comes to baby gear, I get what I want

I do all the research... On everything - gear, discipline, feeding, trouble shooting issues, etc.

It didn't bother me on gear... I mostly went with reviews and if it directly impacted him (like the convertible car seat in his car) then I give him a heads up on what I'm thinking and he approves.

It drives me bonkers on parenting issues like discipline. My husband has no frame of reference for how we should be doing things or what is "normal"... He just goes with what seems right. I, meanwhile, read, research and talk to other moms and our pediatrician about almost every issue so I feel comfortable with how we are handling it. Then, we aren't always on the same page which is annoying, and worse he has no rationale for why he wants to do time out a specific way, or why he is concerned about the latest round of spit up. In an ideal world, we'd each research the big issues And then discuss and form a united front.

@Foodnerd81: My DH is exactly like yours! It is frustrating sometimes, but I also appreciate not having to run every little decision past him. We'll see how it goes when LO gets here, and we're dealing with parenting choices, not just gear and pregnancy stuff.

If I ask him to he will, but doesn't typically take the initiative on those sorts of things which is okay. He'll offer an opinion if I give a set of options.

@AggieDaze: this is basically my life. I try to avoid the problems by discussing these things beforehand but he will literally tell me to do whatever I personally think is best and then contradict me later. It drives me bananas

No, not at all!

Nope. Not at all. I do all the research. I get similar comments like "If you just google..." blah. Of course, if it's something HE cares about, he'll look into it and get it (i.e. DD just got new skis and ski boots that he ordered!)

He researches what I ask him. Like car seats there was so many options, so I told him to pick two and then I would decide from there so he did all the research and basically picked what one he thought was best so we got that.

He also researches things like milestones and behaviour stuff sometimes.

@ladybee: Same here! I tend to go overboard researching things before buying (especially baby gear), but the only opinion he ever has on anything is the price. Always wonders why we can't just buy the cheaper one....

But of course, he'll spend hours on end researching power tools only to decide he needs the fanciest, most expensive one.

hahahahaha. ummm, no. except for the best ipod docking system to play white noise, but i think he had ulterior motives there he's happy to weigh in if i need help making a decision, but then just listens to my research/pros & cons.
