LO 1 stays seated but LO 2 (19 months)just started getting restless in her highchair this week...lots of crying. I saved her a couple of times but I really don't want to eat with her on my lap!

For about 10-15 mins at home, better if we are out. A new thing is wanting to go on our laps during meals. He's in a booster and is 2.5 and can get up and down as wants (even if over our objection)

She fights the high chair like she's a world class wrestler and demands to sit on a "big girl chair", NOT booster seat. Then she gets up and almost falls off and tries to launch herself across the table multiple times. So, no

@autumnlove: My LO is almost 18 mo and he can usually sit in his chair for 10-15 mins, some days less. I recently took a toddler discipline class and they said we should only expect kids to sit still for one minute per year old they are. So I guess you're looking at about 1.5 minutes!
Another mom in the class mentioned that she set her kid up at a kiddy table in the dining room, so they could eat a bit, get up and play and then come back to eat if they were still hungry. Not walking around with food, only eating at the table....so thats an idea.

LO is in a booster seat and once she starts standing up I know she is finished and get her down.

Yes. When he was a young toddler, he couldn't get out of his high chair. But in our house it's a rule that you can't leave the table until you are excused.

He will sit as long as he is eating, but he never sits as long as we do. He's just in a regular chair.

Ugh, no, and I'm not sure if I'm letting him start some bad habits. He's been in that tantrumy phase lately (almost 21 months), so I've been letting him just sit at a regular chair at the table, but he's constantly getting up and leaving and going to play. And I let him because I don't want to fight... ugh.

It's ALWAYS potty time during meals. Always. We have a rule to sit on your bum until excused. There are many many reminders.

He's still in a highchair but the rule in our house is that he can't get up/down before not everyone at the table has finished eating. Sometimes there's some whining but usually it works.

About two weeks ago, she would constantly stand up, and wiggle her way out of the seat. We bought a booster seat (which keeps her strapped down better) and now she eats at the table, and we've had NO ISSUES. I think she was just ready to sit WITH us. Also 19 months old. And if she won't stay seated, i put her down but she gets no food down there (she wants to eat it and run amuck) and she doesn't get to sit in our laps while DH And I eat.

She's doing better, but around 19-22 months she was up, down, up down, switching chairs, ect. I would just move her food to the counter and she would yell "HEY, I'm not done" and I said then you need to sit down and finish it, and it worked. She got tired of me taking her food so she eats it. She still messes around some, but she usually stays in her chair.

My DD (27 months) is ok while she is eating but once she is finished, she is d.o.n.e. with sitting . Doesn't matter if she is in a high chair or a booster seat at the table-- she immediately starts asking to get up. And if we don't let her it, she escalates to whiny/crying pretty quickly. Sigh. We keep trying to teach her to sit while Mama and Dada are still eating but so far, it's not working!

for about 10 minutes. then she wants down and I have to call her over to eat a bite every few minutes. But I don't want to yell and argue over eating, and she DOES eat, so whatever. I let it go. however, if I plop the ipad in front of her, she's like a statue.

@blackbird: I think it might be time for us to switch too!
