Is it worth checking out??
DH thinks we should skip it but I'm wondering if it would be fun and interesting for the kids (4 year old and 1.5 year old) and their grandparents.

I enjoyed it as a teenager and it's beautiful. I would take my boys in a heartbeat!

We took DD last year when she was 3 and we all enjoyed it! She liked seeing how the pineapples grow and there's also a huge koi pond, where you can buy food and feed them. Make sure you get a dole whip - so yummy!

Loved it with our 8 month old last year. We also had an almost 2 year old with us. Dole whip and fresh pineapple juice is worth it.

I wish I had the time to go as an adult when I was there 2-3 years ago. I love the Pineapple Dole whip at Disney and I was so looking forward to having it in Hawaii. (But, boo, no time.)
Not sure about kids but it sounds like fun.

Depends on what else you have on the agenda and how much time you have there. There are plenty of things I would rather see before the Dole plantation.

Great place for them to run around a bit but not much kid specific stuff.
If I recall its a bit of a drive.

We just went in May, and I think you can skip it, but if you really want to go, it has a few fun things for the kids. The train ride and getting a dole whip were highlights, but overall it's mostly a big store.
That said, I didn't see a koi pond, and the maze was completely barren when we went, so maybe it would be different for you. -

They have Dole Whips at Aulani on Oahu too... I went to the plantation in Maui a few years ago and it was a big tourist trap store IMO. Sure th Dole Whip was tasty, but it wasn't worth it at all and I would not go back. Go to Matsumoto Shave Ice instead!!
