What do you do about the power outlet and cables for appliances that are plugged in within your toddler's room, if they are no longer in the crib?
We have a heater/fan and the nightlight plugged in and the outlet is behind the bedside table but D'S could possibly reach behind and pull the plugs then touch the outlet.
We will be needing to transition him out of the crib within 5 months so wondering what people do about this or if its not an issue?

Hasn't been an issue but we do have plug protectors in the outlets we don't use. You can also buy slide across covers that cover the outlet if the cord gets unplugged. We tried them but they were too spring loaded and our cords kept popping out. Ds hasn't tried to touch the outlets and thankfully never gets out of his big boy bed even 3 months after we transitioned him.

We have the big covers that go over the plugs. Adults can open the covers to plug/unplug and the cords go through a hole. My 2yo who touches EVERYTHING leaves them alone. We actually have them anywhere in the house something is accessible and always plugged in like a lamp.
His sister wouldn't have needed them though so depends on the kid. And if it's hidden I wouldn't worry, many of our outlets are not.

My 2.5 year old has never been interested in outlets/plugs stuff. I have a cable management box like this (http://a.co/5iAOxbv) in her room.

@macintosh: Do you have any problems with plugs falling out of that style of cover? I've heard that they're too bulky for some plugs?

@kitty: our 20 month old is still in her crib but we've tried to make her room as safe as possible so she can be in there for a minute without constant supervision. While O isn't that focused on getting into things, T was kind of a monster about it. None of those boxes would've worked for him. He would've pulled on the cords hard enough to pull the box off the wall. We basically set up the furniture in the room so every cord and used outlet was blocked. We used zip ties to gather cords and then fastened them to the back of his dresser so he couldn't reach back there to yank on them. But maybe he was an extreme case? I'm amazed so many people have kids who aren't interested in cords.

@kiddosc: I do have one issue with a heavier plug because my outlets are sideways for some strange reason. Oh also have a diaper pail in front of it that sometimes knocks it loose. It's not annoying enough to that I've thought about changing anything, though

We have only one thing in there (the lamp) and it is plugged in behind the toy shelf which is bolted to the wall. I'm super paranoid about outlets!

@Mrs. Turtle: my DS is definitely on the spirited side, I don't think he would pull the box off like that but he does have an interest in unplugging and plugging in cords although we always tell him no. It makes things a little harder doesn't it!
