Has anyone visited? I am thinking about planning a trip there this fall (central MA) as my son is really interested in the process Carle used.

I had no idea there was an Eric Carle museum. DS would love that. We've been meaning to get out to the Dr. Seuss museum which is pretty close to there.

Following with interest because we're considering both of those when we visit DH's grandparents in a few weeks. I'm confused about the Dr. Seuss one b/c I thought it was a museum, but on the website it's listed as a garden....
I'm not clear on how little-kid-friendly they are. It seemed like they might be more focused on the history of the authors, which my kids are too little to care about.

I learned that there was a museum from the librarian this weekend, as we were looking at a book about Eric Carle's art. I think it might be worth a weekend trip in early October, and possibly bundle it with apple picking or a visit to an orchard.

Sounds like a great trip! let me know how it goes if you go...maybe I'll do it next year! Our library has a huge Carl's caterpillar hanging from the ceiling and LOs first bday was EC. Plus we all love art.

I went to it 11 years ago, when it was brand new, so take my reply with a grain of salt. There were some great illustrations from the books, a wonderful library and they had workshops/projects for kids to participate in. That area of MA is quite nice. Amherst and Northampton are two nice towns fairly close by. As far as I know, the Dr. Seuss thing is an outside garden. In Enfield, CT (about 20 minutes away) there is a cool trolley museum that my four year old loves. Or if you head in the opposite direction, towards Deerfield, MA, there is the Yankee Candle Factory.

I went to a wedding there about 5-6 years ago -- it was beautiful! I remember they had an activity/craft-type room with tons of art supplies that looked really fun. There's a lot of greenery outside too. Didn't have kids at the time so I didn't really think about it with that filter so those are all the details I remember!

We've been a few times with DS. We really like it - they have exhibits of storybook art, a really nice library of children's books with story times (sometimes by the authors of the books), and an art studio to make your own project. We've always had a good time. It is very kid friendly of course.
Amherst is a cute town to explore as well.

I haven't been, but just wanted to add that the Dr Seuss thing is actually a museum now (not just a garden anymore).

@PinkElephant: @mrsbookworm: There used to just be a bunch of statues in a garden, but now there's a whole museum that just opened - https://springfieldmuseums.org/about/dr-seuss-museum/
