Have you seen anything?
My nanny's roommate was rear-ended and the owner ended up buying her a brand new car (paid off in full). It was a $28K car. Owner wanted her to know that good things can come from bad situations.

@bluestriped bee: Holy moly!! That's incredible.
For me, an extreme act of kindness would be someone buying me an iced coffee.

I've heard of one:
My SIL's dad was a vet and a wealthy, childless old lady left him her entire estate to him in her will, including her large house (worth a LOT of money). The old lady had a live-in housekeeper who had served her for many, many years and my SIL's dad decided to sign the house over to her, rather than evict her from her home and sell.

The only one I can think of is a coworker gave another coworkers young daughter one of his kidneys. He apparently was a match. A complete stranger to him though! Talk about self-sacrifice.

I heard one recently! A fellow doula had an unmarried, grad student couple living in her apartment building and they were of different races and religions. One day the male half called her and said his partner just had a baby in their apartment. Apparently they hadn't gotten married due to the cultural differences and were in denial about the pregnancy because of that, family problems, and student visa issues as well. This woman brought them to the hospital and when they got there the staff called CPS because she hadn't had any prenatal care at all and had absolutely nothing in place to care for the baby.
This woman rallied her entire neighborhood and they provided the couple with literally everything they needed - before CPS could get to their apartment for a home visit they had people in to clean, they got crib, dresser, diapers, bottles, clothes, everything set up for baby AND someone stayed with them 24/7 when they were in the hospital because they were scared and don't speak English that well.
CPS ended up checking off everything as being OK and now it's been 8 weeks and they're home and doing great with a huge support system!!

Oh my gosh, that's amazing!
I've not had a RAK before BUT I have done the odd 'pay for someone behind me's cofffee/meal order' thing. I kind of wish I'd stuck around to see their reactions, but I was a bit nervous people would think I was weird!

I knew a guy that had his med school education paid off in full by a complete stranger. He met the guy on the subway and they causally chatted. Him being a med student somehow came up and the stranger proceeded to write him a check. He said someone had done the same for him and asks to play it forward once he becomes a doc himself.

@mrbee: The actual story the guy told us during his engagement party was that he got a blank check?!! I think I was too shocked to asked questions but I'm sure there must have been some sort of verification. But the blank check was one detail he insisted on! I didn't know the guy personally, as he was an older BIL of a friend. But he was a doctor, so he was gearing up to do it himself.
