Anybody doing anything fun? We are having fish and fries (and salad) for dinner and leftover brownies for dessert. I should have made a king cake!

We went to a Girl Scout cookie tasting party! There was also pizza and a moon bounce, so that will make my job tonight much easier - no cooking or clean up, and the kids are nicely tired out! We also had pancakes for breakfast and king cake after lunch. We are really making the most out of the day

@honeybear: we went to a pancake dinner at LO's school! There were lots of kids activities and we got to make blessing bags for the homeless.

@rattles: what the hey!? That sounds like the most awesome party idea, ever.

Right?! It was super cute. The moms milled around with cookies or coffee, and the kids got to vote on their favorites. They jumped off their sugar highs, then had some pizza before heading home. Genius!

@rattles: haha I feel like that is a wonderful birthday party idea in the making. Cookie voting party. Eat the cookies first. Then bounce house. Might also be a puke fest in the making. LOL

@regberadaisy: there was voting and a Daisy scout on hand selling cookies to take home! No pukers tonight, but I definitely could see it happening, ha

I live in New Orleans so I spent the day walking the parades and catching throws! Extra day off work!

I usually make king cake, but I had teaching and night classes today, so we went out for pancakes instead! Yum.

We didn't get to go to the parades this year because we have a newborn. Next year will be baby's first Mardi Gras. We live in New Orleans, too.

It's a big deal here (very Catholic country). Daycare took us to a neighboring town that had a Fasching (carnival) party with a parade and activities. All the kids and a lot of adults were in costume.

@Ms. RV: I almost went the pizza route too!
@rattles: Agreed, a GS cookie party is a great idea! A Brownie just came around last weekend too, so perfect timing. I'll make a note for next year!
@mrsjd: @lamariniere: Oooh, fun!! @antigone: (Fun for next year! )
@MoonMoon: Is your king cake recipe online? I made this one for Epiphany: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2014/01/galette-des-rois-kings-cake-recipe/ (and it was AMAZING!). But I haven't tried the New Orleans version and I want to!
@travellingbee: I like that idea!
@MamaG: Yes! It's Shrove Tuesday: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrove_Tuesday I remember being told the pancakes were to use up the butter and sugar before Lent. (It's okay to eat butter and sugar during Lent, of course, but I think the idea was not to have a lot of "rich" foods around because it's a time of fasting/simple meals, prayer, and alms-giving.)

@honeybear: I don't have a go to recipe! I usually Google until I find one I like, preferably with a cream cheese icing. I remember liking Emeril's recipe in the past.

@MamaG: in England pancakes were traditional on Fat Tuesday since Lent starts the next day and people made pancakes to get rid of their fat and sugar and other forbidden foods, and have one last feast before the fast!
