Some of my students were asking me today, and I have been going down nostalgia lane--what were the "hot" books of your school?
Off the top of my head, I'm remembering Tiger Eyes, Goodnight, Gracie and this "Couples" series that my older sister had that I devoured.

@stiletto_mom: they came out with an "adult" sweet valley a couple years back. I totally read it. eta: adult does not mean sexy in this context...just wanted to clarify that, haha.

Definitely the Baby-Sitters Club! I just handed down my full collection to DD. 
VC Andrews books, the Flowers in the Attic series.

I'm Chinese and I read all the Amy Tan books.
I also really liked the Chicken Soup for the Soul books.
I never heard of the "couples" books!

Pre-teen: hands down, BABYSITTERS CLUB. I think I may have grown out of the series towards its end, but oh man this was my favorite for several years. I even met Ann M Martin at a local mall for a book signing! (I had her sign my favorite, Logan likes Mary Anne!)
The movie basically made my childhood complete. 
Okay, clearly I was a little obsessed...
Teen years: I am embarrassed to admit it was mostly Christian young adult romance-type fiction- Janette Oke books about love in the pioneer era.
ETA a lot of people were into RL Stines Fear Street and Goosebumps books so I tried a few out. They weren't my style, I have always been a little sensitive to the horror genre, both child/adult versions!

I loved the Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley series (all of them). I never heard of the Couples series though.

All the Madeline L'Engle series and I think I read everything Lois Duncan wrote until I aged out of her writing.

Babysitter's Club, Sweet Valley Twins and High, Lurlene McDaniel books (sobbed through each of them), Paula Danziger, all Judy Blume.

I liked Babysitters and Sweet Valley Twins and High as a pre-teen as a kid but eventually I really gravitated more towards historically set books like Little House on the Prairie, Anne of Green Gables, survival books (Island of the Blue Dolphins, Hatchet, My Side of the Mountain, Julie of the Wolves).

As a teen, Lord of the Rings, Anne McCaffrey's Pern series. I was really into Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
As a pre-teen, I was obsessed with the Thoroughbred series. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thoroughbred_(series) There are a ton and I probably read 20+

The Enchanted Forest Chronicles (Dealing with Dragons, etc), Catherine, Called Birdy and The Midwife's Apprentice, Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lionness series, and all the Goosebump books. Ha. Amongst many, many others. Books are the best.
