Our families aren't fans of cake with frosting so I'm planning to do a loaf cake or pound cake served with fruit at LO's birthday. Do you have a favorite recipe?

@blackbird: I pinned that one last week. If it's Paula Deen I'm pretty sure it has to be delicious!

Maida Heatter's Oreo cake has been a classic in my family for years! My moms been making it forever. It's delicious and not super sweet! The chocolate glaze is yummy but you can definitely skip it. https://books.google.com/books?id=qbpPr8rLS5AC&pg=PA82&lpg=PA82&ots=bHQ9U3CfmU&focus=viewport&dq=maida+heatter%27s+oreo+cookie+cake&output=html_text

@jhd: @blackbird: it's awesome and super easy to make! I brought it to a pizza party for a club I was in during college, and everyone ate the whole thing before the pizza arrived, lol.

This is D's Gram's pound cake recipe. My MIL prefers to do it all in a stand mixer. I like to whisk the dry ingredients together before adding.
(All ingredients at room temp)
Preheat oven to 325. Grease and flour a bundt pan (Gram refused to use anything except crisco and Wondra)
Cream: 1/2 c crisco with 2 sticks butter
Add: 3 c sugar, mix until creamy
Add: 5 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each
Mix: 3 c flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
Add: 1 c milk alternately with dry ingredients. Don't overbeat
Add: 2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp lemon extract
1/2 tsp mace (optional)
Bake 1 hr, 20 minutes.
Remove and let stand on a wire rack for 15 min.
Tap several times all over, invert onto wire rack and let sit for a bit longer before removing pan to cool.
Dust with powdered sugar when cool.

@MrsSCB: I made the oreo pound cake in cupcake form (and may have added more oreos) and then used a buttercream frosting...and damn, they were good! I wanted to bake something up to welcome some neighbors onto the street and these were perfect!

@blackbird: Yay, I'm glad you liked it! I never thought to make cupcakes from the recipe -- that is genius

I am a pound cake FREAK and this one is AMAZING:

I have made a vanilla one by replacing the lemon juice with more milk and the lemon zest with vanilla extract. I've also made an almond poppyseed one. So moist and good!
