I was invited to a party and I'm thinking I'll order a few books for Christmas for my 2 year old. Any favorites I should consider?

Going to the Doctor and Going to the Dentist. I swear those two made both of those visits go so much better. I also read each approximately 16 thousand times as my daughter was obsessed. I think she got them for Christmas when she was 2.5.

I got my nephew a train book that has a little train that you pull back to wind up and on each page there's train tracks that the little train drives on. The words follow the train so you read it that way. It's so cute and my nephew loves it. He just turned 3.

We LOVE the book "Nibbles" and also the "peek inside" series is great for toddlers.

All Better! The best book for 2-year-olds who love bandaids for boo-boos. It comes with 5 restickable bandaids that you can put on each animal's ouch. You can just wash the bandages when they lose their stickiness and they'll be good as new. I love to give that one as a gift, too.

We have The Big Book of Big Dinosaurs, The Big Book of Tractors, and On The Construction Site (shine a light book).

I second All Better and the Nibble book! We also have Peek Inside Nighttime and a couple Shine a Light books. Very cute!
We have the train book too, but my daughter lost the train.

We wound up getting the look inside space book and the My 1st Orchestra book. The space book is really cool but definitely beyond my 2 year old, I probably should have grabbed nibbles instead. The Orchestra book is amazing though! It plays actual sound clips, nothing like those awful kids books with all the buttons. I'm saving it for Christmas so she hasn't seen it yet but I'm sure it will be a hit.

Nibbles! And I'm a Dirty Dinosaur has been a hit with my toddler. While I love nibbles, I had to put it up so she doesn't rip it to shreds.

@yin: is Big Book of tractors worth it? I mean how many tractors are there? I'm thinking of the big book of bugs instead.
Going to try Nibbles!

@abbydabbydoodlebug: thanks! I'm going to try one of the pull backs too!

Question.... what is the appeal of Usborne books, vs. buying books from Amazon or a book store, or getting library books? I've been invited to 2 parties and I usually don't do direct sales.

for older kids (5+) their drawing books are awesome.
and "that's not my..." books were some of my kids' favorites!

@DesertDreams88: honestly, the only hook is that they are great books and can typically only be ordered through the direct sales people. Some of their books are available elsewhere but most aren't. It kills me to pay full price plus shipping though. I have only ordered once but my suggestion would be if you are going to order check the price/availability on amazon first and try to pick the more unique items like the My first Orchestra book or All Better.

@Cole: Ive heard the quality is great too. I'm hoping for lift the flap/pop up books/fold outs that they dont get torn up as easily? Do you think thats true?
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@T.H.O.U.: we only have one and it's geared towards sightly older kids so I'm potentially not the best judge but even the one we have is thicker than say "where is baby's belly button" or "where's spot" so it is definitely high quality thick paper.

I just did an online usborne party and ordered the Apple Tree flashlight book, My Body book (the lift the flap one), Construction site flashlight, and a slide and see book for my DD, nephew and niece.
There were about a million others I wanted to get though! I'm thinking of doing an usborne party for baby #2, where I can use the hostess gifts to get DD and baby some new books.
Eta: I believe the rep that put on my party said that if your book gets destroyed, you can send it in to be replaced at 1/2 off. They are good quality books!

I just ordered the big book of color at a recent party; one for DD and for her cousin for Christmas.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: you are right, I'm technically a consultant though I just use it for the discount and to offer my friends the discount, and they do have a 50% policy!
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@Mrs D: I'm mildly interested in the consultant for discount idea, are there minimums or anything else that make it tricky?
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@Cole: Whats annoying is that there is not a fee to have your website open...so I just pay the fee when I want to place an order and place bigger orders less frequently. And then like now for the holiday season...I offer the discount to all my friends...make it a party and keep the hostess rewards for myself...and they get 25% off. Win-win.
I also joined when they had a special, so I joined for $25 and thats it. But I got no books - it wasnt a "kit". But no minimums.

@T.H.O.U.: seriously...feel free...I just paypal them the money back once I get my commission deposit

@Mrs D: Thank! If you think of it, will you wall me if there's ever a similar promo to sign up?

@Mrs D: awesome, I joined last month to get some free books and deals. Definitely worth it.

Bumping for any other ideas, attending an online party on Sunday.

Oo, oo! @Bao: I just finished a play date usborne party (which I highly recommend, btw. It was super fun). And I ordered a billion books. I'm most looking forward to my 3yo getting My First Math lift the flap, wipe clean dot to dot and beginning pen control, muddle and match imagine, and q&a dinosaurs!
Eta: personally, I'm most excited about A Squirrel's Tale because I had that book as a kid and I looooooved it, so I can't wait to read it to DD to see what she thinks.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: great, thank you!! I'll check those out

We got the dollhouse sticker book and it's really a great sticker book, friends rave about the others too. I also love the my first orchestra book. We got the fingerprint activity book too and I'm really excited about it but it's tucked away for an upcoming flight.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
@Cole: are the stickers removable? Or do they just stay once you place them?
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@Bao: they aren't really reusable but they aren't the type that once you stick it down you don't get a spare second to change your mind off that makes sense. Like we can't go back a week later but my daughter will try a spot and change her mind and within a few minutes it's fine.
nectarine / 2636 posts
@Bao: we got dolly dressing and I'm pretty sure those are removable. Some of the sticker books are not removable though. Also, as an FYI, the marker for the wipe clean books is not washable, so you need to use washable ones instead.
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@abbydabbydoodlebug: oh that's good to know! I have the travel cards packed too so I'm pulling those out and replacing the marker now.
nectarine / 2636 posts
@Cole: I leaned the hard way when DD got a scholastic brand wipe clean book and got a dot on her Hanna Andersson Christmas pajamas.
