Anything and everything about your nursery can go here!

I will start! For DS, we did a gender neutral theme - Lion King, but had blue walls because my original idea was to have a beach theme. However, I went with Lion King because they had the whole collection at toys r us (so it was easier than figuring out a beach theme)...and i LOVE the Lion King. It was a bit costly though to get everything, so i decided then i would re-use the same theme for LO2 and i still plan to. We just moved so have not painted or anything yet, but this time i plan to do the walls a more neutral beige colour.

Not too far from that, we're thinking of going with an elephant theme. Elephants have always been my favorite animal (probably stems from my love of Lion King...), especially after going on several safaris in Kenya and Tanzania on our honeymoon last year. We have a couple beautiful fabrics printed with elephants that we've framed, so I think those will be the basis of our nursery theme.
We ran into a bit of a roadblock this week: we were planning on completely gutting and renovating our 3rd floor to create a master suite and nursery. But it turns out it'll be WAY more expensive than we anticipated. So now we're doing that renovation in phases, which will mean we stay living on the second floor at least a couple more years. So the nursery is now in a completely different room than we planned on, and I have to rethink the layout, etc.
But I can't wait to start putting it together! Looking forward to seeing everyone's progress!

This will be fun! I don't have a theme per se but am doing light gray walls with navy accents (like the area rug). For the walls I'm looking at prints like London double deckers, yellow cabs, pirates - things that are in a primary color palette. I love vintage-inspired prints and I'm not into things that look too "babyish". I'm excited to get started and see everyone's ideas!

@californiadreams: That set is adorable. I like how muted the colors are - it doesn't scream cartoon/Disney (not that that would be bad, I love Disney), but it's perfect for a nursery.
@saboma: I'm jealous of the safaris you've been on! An elephant theme sounds perfect. Sorry to hear about your hiccup with switching rooms. Maybe you will be inspired to do something you haven't thought about yet!

We are team green, but we are doing a subtle Dr. Seuss theme. We have hand-me-down furniture from family that I plan to paint, we bought a rocker from Target a while ago that we will use too. I'm super excited to work on this room and have a lot of DIY stuff planned. I'm stuck on my color theme and I haven't found any fabrics I love yet. When I get a chance, I'll throw together an inspiration board.

Is anyone planning to get a glider for the nursery. I totally want to get one. I just don't what kind to get or how much is reasonable to spend or where to get it from, lol. I guess i have some research to do.

@californiadreams: we already have an IKEA poang chair that rocks a little, plus the matching footrest. We're going to try that for a bit and see if it works for us. If not, we'll definitely buy a nice glider.

@californiadreams: we have an old sofa that we used in M's room and I'm just going to move it to the baby's room. It's a sleeper so it's good in case someone needs to sleep over too. Of course it doesn't rock but we have a rocker in the den that can also work for us.

@californiadreams: We considered a glider, but got this rocking chair and a half from Target on clearance (a different color now discontinued) because I loved the size and the price was too good not to pass up. I need to get an ottoman to help make rocking easier/more comfortable, but I'm overall happy. I like the motion of a glider better, but this will work for us.

@TemperanceBrennan: That chair looks awesome. We got a less expensive glider/ottoman with #1 and I really wish we would have splurged on something nicer.
I haven't even started thinking about a nursery yet. Probably once we know the sex. The room needs a lot of prep work, furniture moved out, wallpaper stripped and paint. The previous owners had a neon colored kids room and it is beyond horrible.
I'll post a pic of LO #1's nursery though... I loved that room so much. We painted and laid new flooring, it was definitely a labor of love. I totally cried over that room when we sold the house.

@TemperanceBrennan: that chair looks amazing! i am picky about which glider i get because i want to comfortably fit my nursing pillow around my waist (my brest friend). It was difficult with the rocking chairs i had last time. so something like that looks like a good option too!

i think i finally found my glider! i am so excited
I've been going to a lot of baby stores where they sell high end stuff and just trying out all the chairs. I've also gone to BRU and didn't love them plus the reviews are not great.....so finally i thought i would wait for black friday or boxing day and hopefully get a deal on one of the high end ones....and instead i found one in the colour i want on craigslist for almost a third of the price it retails for!
i pick it up this saturday, so it will be official then, but i am getting the Monte Luca glider and matching ottoman.

I finally got my ideas for the nursery straight in my head! DH is on board (he doesn't really care too much) so now that I have a plan, I can get moving on all the DIY!
The thing that really had me stuck was the wall color. I didn't want to do grey or white and any other color seemed to compete too much with my other ideas. I finally stumbled across a picture I fell in love with - it's a dark olive green used more as a neutral.
I'm going to paint the hand-me-down furniture I have - the crib will be yellow and the changing table will be orange. I bought a cool rug a while back and will probably use it. In person, the rug is less pink and more colorful. It's a little feminine, but oh well.
The bedroom is on a corner and has windows on two of the walls so I think it will have plenty of natural light.
I'm going to keep all the linens (crib sheets and curtains) white and use white for picture frames and trim. Hopefully that will keep it from getting too dark too.
I'm going to paint watercolors of Dr. Seuss Characters to frame and hang on the wall. I'm also thinking how I can incorporate different (awesome) Dr. Seuss quotes.
I'm going to DIY a few things. A floor lamp with a silhouette of a Dr. Seuss Landscape inside the lampshade, front facing bookshelves, and a reading nook tent. I'm also experimenting making my own felt balls to make garland. Hopefully it goes smoothly, or I will just buy some on etsy.

I didn't end up getting that glider i posted. When i got there in person and sat it in, i could tell right away it was not the one i tried in the store (It was much firmer and less comfortable). So i went back to the store and saw that one, but realized I had actually been sitting in a MUCH more comfortable one. I haven't convinced myself to make the splurge just yet, but i am leaning towards it because it hasn't popped up on the used sites yet. The one i almost got also wasn't wide enough for a toddler to sit next to me which was a feature i really liked about the one i actually want. Both are by Monte. Here is the one i am hoping to get:

So I finally bought a glider! I feel like I've been obsessing and looking forever! I just wanted to be 100% happy with no buyers remorse since all the ones I like are so expensive! And I am very pleased that I ended up getting one that was $500 cheaper than the one I had been eyeing for so long (the monte link I posted above). I never felt 100% about the monte one, which I thought was because of the price but the main issue was the back cushion that makes the chair so comfortable does not stay in place. And I could see it being very annoying to adjust with a newborn in my arms. So today I found a chair that I had seen before but prior only came in a colour I really didn't want. Well that colour (floor model) got sold and they brought out another floor model that was a nice dark, brownish gray. I was hoping for something more in the brown/beige family, but the gray is nice and eventually can go nicely in our basement once this baby moves into his big boy room in a couple of years. I love that this chair I got also reclines with a power button that is very accessible and easy to push - I anticipate taking nice naps with my baby like that :).
It was on display next to some dark brown furniture so I was convinced that it would look ok with the espresso crib and change table we have.
I was in the store for over an hour going between this and the monte glider I thought I wanted so much (and I had to decide today because the monte was 10% off for Black Friday weekend). And for a while I was sitting in the gray chair with DS1 next to me and we both very comfortable and it has better back and head support than the cushiony monte. Did I mention it was $500 cheaper? No buyers remorse here!Here it is! I didn't mean to write so much, just super happy that I finally got one!

@TemperanceBrennan: it does! i had confirmation just now that i made the right choice, because i made the mistake of checking kijiji (canadian craigslist)....and for the first time ever, the monte como glider i wanted for so long was up for sale! for the exact same price i paid for the other glider yesterday! had i not gone shopping yesterday, i would have just jumped on this used one and bought it instantly.....so while i had an "Oh shit, i can't believe this murphy's law happened one day after i make a big purchase" moment and i wondered if i made a mistake in not waiting longer..... i thought about it and i am still happy with my decision
i just had to remind myself that the one i got has better back and head support and it reclines which is a nice feature, and while that cushion is beyond comfortable on the monte, it is also annoying to adjust!how is everyone else's nurseries coming along?

We just had all of our guests leave yesterday which means I can finally start on the nursery! Just ordered some top/down bottom up cellular shades from Black Friday sales and should get them this week. I have fabric and black out lining to make curtains. We have sample jars of paint we need to test out and last week we got an area of the basement ready for projects and painting. Work's going to be busy this week, but I'm SO excited to get some stuff done!

@californiadreams: Yes, but the basement is moving VERY slowly since we are doing it ourselves. We have the same plan - goal is to have the main floor finished by the time baby comes and the basement finished by Thanksgiving (so we have two guest rooms).
We are doing a bunch of projects for the nursery that require quite a bit of space, so I just meant we sectioned off a portion of the basement to do the projects for the nursery without getting everything else dusty/dirty. -
We've made a lot of progress on the nursery the last few weeks! Painting is finished (turned out to be more blue than grey--looked more grey in the store--but we're fine with it). Curtains are up. Furniture is built (though still need to get a crib mattress). Clothes are put away. And we even have some cloth diapers ready to go!
Now all that's left is adding more art/pictures to the walls, getting a bright-colored rug, and waiting to see what we get from our registry. There are quite a few more elephant-themed things that we haven't received yet, so they should round out the room nicely.

@saboma: I love it! I think the walls look more blue because your floors have orange undertones. Since orange and blue are complementary colors, they tend to stand out more when they are next to each other. I think they look fantastic together!
Your cloth diapers are so cute!
We got the room painted and are installing crown molding this weekend. My shower is this weekend as well so hopefully we can focus on getting everything pulled together.

Ours is coming along - just waiting on the furniture we ordered to come in, which I'm not anticipating to happen for at least another month. But I've gotten all the artwork framed and clothes are organized (in bags for now). I can't wait for it all to come together!

Nursery is done! Minus the crib mattress, but it should be here this week. I'm so happy with how it turned out. I thought for sure she'd be here before we got it done, but maybe she was just waiting for us to finish it.

Unfortunately the room is not as done as I'd like since the dresser (and bed for M)
I ordered in Nov still aren't in!!! I swear I call the store every other day. They hope to have everything to me by 1st-2nd week in March but still that means we'll have to improvise a bit. Oh well - can't wait for it to be done and get the gallery wall up over the (phantom) dresser.
