It didn't occur to me that this could be an option until I saw some examples on Etsy. I like the idea of using our first names. I mentioned it to a friend and they told me it was a terrible idea. What do you guys think?

I'm not quite sure what the issue would be. Privacy?
We have our first names only (DH, me and LO), and I like how it looks.

DH and I had a stamp like this before our wedding (for all the wedding-related mail) and kept using it until we moved to another address (so 3 years post-wedding). We ordered a last name stamp for the new address to encompass our whole family since we are/were expecting #2.

@littlejoy- Friend seem to think it will mess up the post office and cause more trouble for them if it get lost. I think that's ridiculous.
Glad to hear you just used first names.
@snowjewelz- Awesome I think I'm just going to do first names.

@travelingnanny: that's how ours is. I didn't change my last name and I have a long first name so it would have been super long and annoying. I love how it looks.

Would the stamp still have your physical address? I don't see how your mail would get loss.

@peachykeen Awesome.
I still haven't taken my husband's last name so that's one reason why I want to do first names. Another reason is because we're planning to foster to adopt so we won't have the same last name as our children for a long time. Maybe once our family is complete I'll get a new stamp.

@mrs-lemon-lime- Exactly. Their logic does not make sense to me at all.

DH and I both have rather common first names, so I'd say nay for us. But if that's not the case, I think it's fine.

@peachykeen: Ditto. We've been using our wedding invitation stamp as our return address stamp for almost seven years! It just has our first names.

Technically you don't even need names on mail. You can just use the address. I sometimes sell on ebay and people will ask that you either use their first name only or a last name only or just "Home" or something. So first names would be fine.

I think postal service could care less who the mail is addressed to. The name doesn't matter, just the address itself, house number, street, town, and postal code or zip code.
I know people who did it before their wedding and I do it for couples who don't share the same last name.

@peachykeen: we did the exact same! Kept it for 5 years before we moved even with DD1.

We just have our first names as well. I didn't change my last name when we got married. Never been an issue.

I think it depends on your postal service.
Ours definitely looks at the names. I've had friends had stuff shipped to our house since our home is more private and our mailman has definitely been confused by this before. Once he scribbled question marks all over it, but still delivered it. Another time, he asked me if I knew who these people were before giving me the package (not sure what would've happened if I hadn't been home).
But that might only be an issue if the last name is different than the name they are expecting. Perhaps it's not really an issue if mail just has the first names only.

I could see it being an issue for mail being delivered, but as a return address no. I don't even always write a name on the return address anyway- that's just in case it can't be delivered for some reason.
I would not mail something to a delivery address without names though.

I still have my maiden name so I put first names only. I don't think our post office cares. Our mailman delivers stuff that doesn't have our name on it, but the address is correct.

I would put last name bc I've had so many mail issues before and both my husband and I have different two different first names- legal first names and names everyone calls us so I just don't want there to be any confusion who we are lol. I changed my last name tho..

We have only our first names on our address ink stamp for return addresses. I have a unique name so people know who we are regardless. I don't see why first names only is a problem...?

Sometimes when I scribble our return address I don't put any names at all.
