I'm back and it did not go well. My re was only able to get 2 eggs. She's not sure if it was empty follicles or if I ovulated prematurely. I know I have 2 to work with, but what are the chances..I feel like being hopeful has done absolutely nothing for me so far, so I don't know how to feel and what to think. Feeling pretty devastated...

@mama2em: I'm so sorry I can not imagine how you are feeling. There is still a chance that the two may fertilize well and go on to be your LO(s).

Once you get through this cycle I think it will be important for you to have a sit down with the RE and go over what she thinks may have happened no matter the outcome.

Be kind to yourself today, rest up and I will have everything crossed that the next couple of days bring you good news

@mama2em: I'm so sorry to hear that. I can only imagine how you must be feeling right now. I second what @mrswin: said...once the smoke has cleared, hopefully your RE can give you an idea of what this cycle "means" and what could be done better/differently. I hope that the two eggs they retrieved are healthy and ready to go! Sending hugs and good thoughts your way! Please take care...have a glass of wine and especially let DH pamper you tonight!

@mama2em: I'll be sending lots of prayers that those two are fantastic quality eggies and fertilise well. I remember that sinking feeling when they told me I only had three retrieved, I was absolutely gutted - but we got our Georgia from there. x Lots of love.

@jaguar thank you so much for your reminder. I am holding on to hope that the two we did get will make it and have to just try to think positively until we know for sure tomorrow. I guess I'm thankful though that I'm not in much pain right now so at least I know my recovery will be just fine.

Thank you @mrswin @fliegepilzhut! Your kind words mean so much to me

hi everyone, thank you so much for the prayers and good thoughts. they must have worked b/c i just got a call from my RE saying that 1 fertilized normally and the other one is growing slower. they don't know if it's abnormal yet so they will keep monitoring it to see if it catches up. has anyone had that happen before?

i feel relieved and happy, but i also feel weary b/c now i have to wait 2 more days to get an update. i want to think that the 1 is a fighter and will make it, but there are no guarantees. any positive stories/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.. thank you as always! also, is it worth it to call the embryo lab to get more details or should i just wait until day 3? this waiting game sure sucks...

@mama2em: I'd say you would be fine to ring tomorrow and see how they're doing. Especially the one that's a little behind. Big hugs & hoping #1 is THE one!

@mama2em: I'm glad to know that you've got at least 1 so far! Will they plan for a Day#3 transfer? Probably best to wait this one out...but know that the lab and your embies are doing their best work right now!

  13. mama2em

    grape / 91 posts

@fliegepilzhut i think it will be a 3 day transfer. i prefer a 3 day at this point since i probably only have 1 possible embryo. we'll see though, crossing my fingers. i actually just called the embryo lab and they told me the other one did NOT fertilize but they are just waiting it out b/c they only check on the embryos once a day, so it may have fertilized after the check...they just won't know until day 3 (shouldn't they just check on it tomorrow?!). anyhow, the embryologist said it is likely that my one will make it to a 3 day, but not guaranteed. ah, longest wait of my life...

@mama2em: I vaguely remember the embryologist saying that they don't really check on them on day 2 because nothing exciting happens on that day, basically. Fingers crossed that the other one will surprise you on day 3!

    thank you ladies!

today was great! got a call from my RE saying that i have a perfect embryo (graded 9A) and i got the transfer!! transfer went well and i'm home now in front of my tv for the next 2 days! kind of nice being on a forced bed rest to escape life's responsibilities just for a little

i don't know how i'll get through the wait, but hopefully this will turn out to be all worth it! it's definitely been a roller coaster since the beginning and i can't believe i made it to a transfer. i hope you ladies are all having a great weekend!

    pomegranate / 3533 posts

@mama2em: That's great! Lots of ladies have become pregnant with a single, good embryo! Sending lots of calm thoughts to your uterus and a warm welcome to your little embie!!!

@FliegepilzHut: thank you! were you on bed rest after your first IVF? if so, were you instructed to literally stay in bed and lay down or is sitting on the couch equally as acceptable? i hate laying around, so i've just been sitting on my couch this whole time watching tv...

also, one thing they didn't have me do is drink a whole bunch of water before the transfer. i've read online that most people drink a ton of water before the transfer, and when i asked about it, they said they don't have their patients do that. any thoughts on that?

  25. FliegepilzHut

    pomegranate / 3533 posts

@mama2em: I actually didn't have bedrest instructions...but they said to really take it easy, so I spent most of the day propped up in bed (I think the couch would be fine)... DH brought take out for dinner and I may have got up and gone for ice cream that evening. (BTW-- I did get pregnant from my first cycle...but unfortunately it wasn't a viable pregnancy. Therefore I'll be having a frozen transfer next month.)

I think the only reason for the full bladder is so that they can see where the catheter is in your uterus (via ultrasound, through the abdominal wall) better. It sounds like your transfer went very smoothly, so I wouldn't worry about that! Did you and DH get to watch?

  26. Mrs.Pinecone316

    persimmon / 1316 posts

@mama2em: I think the drinking of the water if just to move your bladder so they can see where they are going with the embryo's on ultrasound. If the transfered went smoothly then no need to worry about the water. I was on bedredt 48 hrs but ended up doing light bedrest another 2 days because I had 2 different people tell me they only got pregnant the cycles they did BR for 4 days. Obviously some doctors don't even recommend this so don't take it too seriously. My clinic said to lay down, not sit up. Also no shower till the 48 hr mark and only ok to get up for bathroom. I didn't stay on the couch the whole time though. my dog got super sick right after transfer so I was checking on him a lot.

  27. momazon

    kiwi / 613 posts

@mama2em: So glad you made it to transfer! Congratulations!!! My clinic just does "couch rest" for the day of the transfer, then says you can return to light activity after that. So no heavy exercise, but I can go back to work, etc. For transfer, they have us drink 16-20 oz. of water, to help make the uterus more visible on the screen during the ultrasound. I've also read a moderately full bladder can help the catheter go in easier as it somewhat straightens out the angle between the cervix and the uterus? Good luck for a relaxing TWW! When's your beta scheduled?

  28. mama2em

    grape / 91 posts

@FliegepilzHut @mrs.pinecone316 @momazon thank you for your replies! the transfer went well without any problems and i do think my bladder was somewhat full from the morning b/c as i was laying down after the transfer, i had to go to the bathroom really bad! i saw everything on the screen though and it looked like my RE found a nice little resting area for our little embie. it's so hard not to worry about every little thing, but i just have to have faith in this whole process and know that we did everything we could this time around. my beta will be on wednesday the 22nd. i'm forcing myself to not POAS. i'm usually really bad and POAS, so we'll see how far i make it

    grape / 91 posts

hi ladies! i hope you are all doing well! i'm trying to sit tight and relax, but i'm sure you would all agree that it's SO HARD!! i'm 5 days past the transfer now and keep wishing that i would just see/feel some type of sign that it worked. i was wondering for anyone that had a successful ivf cycle, did you have any implantation spotting? i had a tiny bit of implantation spotting with my first child and this was the one thing that kept me hopeful during my 2ww. of course i'm waiting for the same thing to happen again this time around, which is probably shouldn't do. ah, this is the worst 2ww EVER!

@mama2em: Congrats on a great transfer the other day. I am 14 weeks pregnant with my first baby from a single embryo transfer at the end of July!

I had NO symptoms of any kind that I was pregnant until I saw two lines come up on the test the day before my beta. I tested to make sure the trigger was gone at 3dp5dt and then didn't POAS again until 7dp5dt. Fingers crossed for you

@FliegepilzHut: @mrswin: thank you for your replies! I am sorry for my late reply, life got a little busy which is a good thing during this 2ww! I am pretty much symptomless, although I am a bit nauseous here and there which is a side effect of progesterone im assuming! I only have a couple of days to go, I'm so nervous but I'm ready to know the answer either way. I haven't poas, I'm pretty proud of myself! I hope you both are doing well!

  36. mama2em

    grape / 91 posts

@mrswin: no, I am forcing myself not to. I'm 9dp3dt today but I'm too scared to test. Part of me feels like I should just put myself out of my misery and test but I feel like I just need to wait. I've poas way too much in the past and only gave myself heartache! It's so hard tho!!

  37. FliegepilzHut

    pomegranate / 3533 posts

@mama2em: I, too, am a stubborn anti-POAS'er...but I actually did the day before my beta. I hated the idea of waiting for a phone call (even) more than the idea of seeing a negative FRER! Definitely do whatever you think will be easier on you!

  38. mrswin

    nectarine / 2433 posts

@mama2em: I totally understand and like @FliegepilzHut: I am generally an anti-POAS'er but I didn't want the phone call/result to come as a surprise while I was at work but you need to do what works for you

  39. mama2em

    grape / 91 posts

@FliegepilzHut: @mrswin: I've gone through 5 cycles of iui and half the time I've poas beforehand only to get af right after and half the time I've waited it out. I hate the long wait between getting your blood drawn and that dreaded phone call, but I'm hoping this time will be a happy phone call so I'm just gonna see this cycle through and cross my fingers. I don't think I can get myself to look at another blank hpt, although a bad phone call is probably worse. I guess no situation (poas, getting af, being patient and still getting bad news) is a good one during this whole process so might as well hold out for the best possible scenario.
