DS is going to start walking in the next few months and I'm thinking ahead about shoes. What were your favorite first shoes? Any cheaper options to the $40 a pair brands like pediped and striderite? Is it really important to have a soft sole when they first start walking? Also is it a bit deal if you size up when they are just fitting in one size? DS is 10 months and we tried shoes on today - size 4 are already tight on him. When did you start putting shoes on you LO all the time?

I bought my 1 yr old a pair of Converse slip ons with velcro. They do have a hard sole, but he is already walking (for two plus months) so I went with something a bit more substantial.

I started at about 13 months when she really started walking. I get Stride Rites but pay about $20-$25 at the outlet or when they have a sale. I would never pay $40+ for shoes.

Robeez Mini Shoez are on sale now at robeez.com for 40% off, making them $20 a pair. I was able to get See Kai Run shoes on MyHabit.com for $21, and the pair of PediPeds my LO is wearing now I bought on Amazon for $23. Good shoes are important for developing feet, and there are certainly deals to be had if you don't mind buying last season's styles

Oh yeah. I forgot, I saw $10 shoes at Stride Rite outlet the last time I was there. It was all last season's styles. They didn't have my LO's size so I couldn't buy any, though.

I love Stride Rite, I always go to the store to be fitted, but look for the best prices on line.
