When I worked at a preschool we served water with frozen berries. It kept it cool and gave it a slight flavor and color change. The kids always loved it. We would typically do it in a big pitcher but occasionally one glass at a time.

No idea if you have a wegmans near you but they make a naturally flavored water with no artificial sweeteners.

You could really water down some pure fruit juice. I agree with @erinbaderin.

When I was little my mum would give us very watered down apple juice. Like 1:8 type ratio in a glass or just a splash. I'm glad she did that because I never developed a taste for juice. As long as your kid sees you mix it I feel like they'll think it's more juicey then it is!

@Bao: crystal light and such have aspartame and many other artificial sweetners I think that are probably worse than regular juice

We water down milk to get extra water in.....

I woul just add fruit to the water or give something like Hint, which is a flat water with natural flavors in it - no sugars or anything artificial. I drink a lot of naturally flavored sparkling water but when M tried it she said she didn't like the bubbles.

We use mio, crystal light and kool aid add ins. Sure it's not natural but there are a lot of things we feed our kids that aren't natural. Our girl is partial to tart so she likes the lemonade flavors.

What about apple cider? The unfiltered kind that has to be refrigerated, not juice labeled cider. I'm not that worried about juice personally but if you get the real apple cider there should be no added sugar plus there's fiber left from the apple pulp. I live in a farming area, but it's available year round here. My son is obsessed and we keep it in the house a lot because it helps him get more liquids in.

@Bao: Thanks for asking this! I am wondering too. My son (14 months) drinks NO water. Literally none. He will only drink milk, pedialite (flavored or unflavored, oddly), or (watery) juice. I had been wondering whether the diluted juice or the diluted pedialite is better??

@Bao: We put a tiny splash of cranberry juice in our LOs' water when there are days they're not drinking enough. We also have fruit infused water as well that we'll use. We have a little ball that we put the fruit in and stick it in our water pitcher. It makes me feel better than giving LO something with artificial sweeteners.

@catgirl: great idea with the berries. Maybe you could do cucumber too, like a fancy spa? We just do a little splash of juice in water for some flavor. Also figure the little bit of sugar is better than the artificial stuff. We buy a lot of mixed fruit/veggie juices. Not sure they're really less sweet, but they feel healthier.

The novelty factor of something like this might appeal - DH got me one b/c I'm terrible at hydrating with just water. IT's fun that she can see the fruit, and she won't end up with chunks of disintegrating fruit pulp in her water.
