I had never given much thought to the whole flu shot thing. I haven't gotten one regularly, but now that I am pregnant, I thought it would be the thing to do to protect myself and the baby. One of my best friends has always gotten the flu shot, and when she was pregnant, she got it as usual.

I didn't think anything of it until I consulted Dr. Google to see if it mattered what trimester I am in (I'm on 5 weeks) to get the shot. To my surprise, there was quite a bit of back and forth about whether the shot's benefits (not getting deathly ill and affecting your baby) outweighed its possible potential downfalls (connected to autism? mercury in the shot itself?). For the record, I believe the Mayo Clinic and the CDC both recommend flu shots for pregnant women.

So to all you mamas and mamas-to-be: Did/will you get the flu shot? Why or why not?
