I'm hoping for the best for you! As I need it too in a couple of weeks! iPad, new snacks, doodle toy, pray for sleep!

I mean this with humor and affection but don't take any sh*t! I just flew yesterday and the antics some my fellow passengers got up to because an infant was crying were embarrassing. You are allowed to be on the plane. Your baby is allowed to be on the plane. Don't let selfish people bully you into thinking that if your child is energetic, inquisitive or scared, you (or your baby) are doing something wrong. We mothers are made to feel like we are constantly doing something wrong. I bet you're a great mom and your baby's first flight is going to be amazing.

I second @Mrs. Fox:. Loved a quote I saw on Pinterest yesterday - do no harm, but take no sh*t
Also, we just did a road trip with my 16 month old, and it was the iPad FTW. PBS Kids has a free app with lots of shows. With your DH and your parents there, you have plenty of entertainment and help. I bet it will be a breeze!

Thank you all! @Mrs. Fox: This gives me confidence! Thank you! He's flown before but he was little and fell asleep for most if the flight.

As long you have assigned seats (i.e not southwest), wait as long as possible to board. We boarded early during family boarding and ended up being on the plane an extra 45 minutes than if we had just waited until the end of boarding. It wouldn't have mattered because our seat was ours and we didn't need overhead bin space. Just a suggestion.

We just got back to NYC from Istanbul on Sunday, with our 21 month old coping pretty well with the 10h15m flight mainly due to the same things that @shopaholic: mentions: snacks (so you don't rely on airline food), books (for takeoff and landing), many iPad apps (a recent essential for LO, with Wee Alphas' Find Your Special Letter app being his current fave), and the many, many prayers for sleep!
Good luck, hope all goes well.
