Just curious how young you let them play with sparklers for 4th of July.

My kid is 4.5 and I won't let her this summer. Kids just get too easily distracted and injuries can happen in an instant. Doesn't seem worth the risk to me.

I'm going to let DD try with her hand with MUCH supervision of course 2.5
Literally my hand on hers

We just let her do it herself the other day. She's 3.5. Of course we were standing right there and took it from her once it got small

They scare the crap out of me so probably never if I'm around. Plus all fireworks are illegal in my county so I don't think we could have them anyway.

Given that I won't even hold them LO is not touching one on his own with my blessing ever.

I was running around with them as long as I can remember, but my son will not have one ever.
I heard that there is carcinogenic material on them.

DS did a month ago (2-1/2) at a friends where their 3 yr old girls were. But we were paranoid so I don't think we'll go out of our way to give them to him.

Never. DH works in the ER, it is not in the cards for our kids under our watch.

DS held them last year when he was 2.5. He was a bit unsure of them. We will try again this year. He loves the pop-its, though!

Hasn't yet at 4.5 and won't for a while. She can barely roast marshmallows with supervision so I'm not gonna give her a stick of fire!

Never. I won't even hold them, I sure as heck am not letting my kid hold them.

Wow, I'm really surprised with all these replies! I'm typically the "no" parent, but we've allowed our boys to have them- the 5 year old pretty independently (us close by) and very close supervision with my 2.5 yr old (my hand over his). Am I missing something (besides the obvious burn?!)
It's interesting to me how different people parent. For me, trampolines are a big no, whereas others don't see a problem with it.

Nope, LO (2yo) is in a phase where she flings stuff around or even at other people, so def no.

Hm, I must suck as a mom. I let them hold them (with our hands over their) their first 4th of July, so... 7 months old. They did them independently last year at 3.5. My family works in ERs, and they've had no problem with it.

Hmm last year my son was 2 and I think one of my friends held it with my son and I didn't think anything. If they're carcinogenic maybe I'll have him refrain though.

She just turned 5 and has not been allowed to hold one yet. Maybe at 10 or so. I don't buy them but DH's family loves fireworks and I don't know how long I can keep them away from her as I'm not always around.
