I was standing in the hospital triage room and it GUSHED! Luckily I am was gowned up and didn't ruin my clothes. It went all over the floor and kept coming with each contraction

I was at a Mexican restaurant for my MIL's birthday. It was a huge gush. My husband and I left and my in laws had to deal with it. Not sure what they did with that chair....

Both times my water broke in the middle of the night as I was finishing up going to the bathroom. So yeah - both times on the toilet! Very easy cleanup

Broke in bed at 5:30am, I was wearing a pad because of spotting due to a membrane sweep the day before so no mess! Was probably the size of a sma water ballon breaking!

I was in the triage room. They had just told me to change back into my clothes (grrr! Ruined a dress I really liked) and were in the middle sending me home and telling me to come back in the morning. I was about to burst into tears because the contractions were so bad that I couldn't believe it wasn't worthy of being admitted, so I was incredibly relieved when my water broke in the middle of my midwife talking!

Mine broke in bed at around 1am. I was sound asleep but woke up when I felt the water. I ran to the bathroom, so most of it went in the toilet.

Mine broke spontaneously both times. With LO1, I was actually sitting on the toilet, so it was vey convenient! With Lo2, it broke when I sat down on LO1's bed! My husband just had to wash the sheets.

I was laboring at home and had gotten progressively more nauseous in between contractions. I had a really strong one and basically dry heaved at the same time and it broke. I ran to the bathroom and threw up. I think my husband cleaned up the mess on the living room floor (hardwood thankfully). And my pants were soaked. Put a towel in my pants and sat on one on the way to the hospital after that. It was pretty intense.

Mine broke when I got out of bed in the morning. It was just a huge gush and got all over the floor. Luckily, DH heard me calling him as he was leaving for work. He cleaned everything up.

WIth #1 I was sitting on the toilet and I leaned over to turn on the light and a small gush came out. It continued to slowly dribble until I got to the hospital. When I went to go give a urine sample, a ton came out as I sat on the toilet. After I had the baby, as soon as she came out, a ton of water came out after her. It scared the Dr and my husband, they both jumped back haha.
#2 they broke it for me

# 1 the dr broke it after being in the hospital for many days!
# 2 the dr broke it during the induction, huge gush, followed by my IV following out which was followed by lots of blood and another huge gush! Those poor nurses, lol.
# 3 finally broke on it's own just after they paged the dr to come up and break it. That was a huge gush that contained meconium.

#1 broke in bed around 4:30 in the morning. It was just a small gush, I don't think it even got on the sheets. I wasn't convinced it was my water (I was 35.3 weeks), so I went all day just wearing a big pad until my regularly scheduled appointment that afternoon when they told me it was my water.
#2 I was in the toilet about to pee. It was a bigger gush than with #1, but still nothing like the movies. We put a towel down in the car, but it was bone dry somehow when we got to the hospital.

With my first it was at a restaurant, so they cleaned up. With my second it broke towards the end of labor, on its own.

mine broke while I was having a morning vomit. I must have heaved too hard and my waters popped... I pulled my pants down to double check, and it splooshed onto the bathroom floor. whoopsy!

The day of I was up at 4am and couldn't sleep. I got up and started puttering around the house and noticed that I was dripping, I put a pad on, I soaked through a pad before I realized that this was my water breaking. It wasn't a gush, just a slow drip/leak. By the time we got to the hospital around 9:30 it was flowing out more in gushes....I felt so bad that i was making a mess of the bed at the hospital!

Mine broke about an hour after my midwife came to check me and told me I wasn't even in labour (well, I was in "early labour" and was 1cm dilated). I had been having erratic contractions 3-5 minutes apart for 24 hours and was so tired and defeated. I took a gravol and Tylenol and tried to get some rest. I was on the couch watching Scandal, trying to doze (while my husband was upstairs sound asleep). I heard a loud "pop!" come from belly. I jumped up and a huge gush went all over the floor. I waddled to the bathroom, yelling for my husband to wake up. There was fluid all through the house (so gross!) that he cleaned up while I laboured. It definitely kick started things for me!

Mine broke about an after I was started on pitocin for my induction. I was having mild contractions by that point and was sitting in the bed. It was something between a gush and a trickle. They had to change my gown and the bed- pretty messy. The bloody show started soon after.

@getjazzy: I woke up on my due date thinking that I was sleeping on a water bed Then I proceeded to leak all the way to the bathroom and back. However, I wasnt convinced just yet that it was time so it took hubby racing home to confirm ! We then proceeded to take pictures of the leakage aftermath lol !! I wasnt having contractions just yet so I decided to shower, eat bkfast, get a Manicure/pedicure, and go for a long walk.

Mine broke at 28 weeks (PPROM). I thought it was vaginal discharge and was hoping it was just that. It was a bit more continuous slow trickle which is why I called my OB and she suggested I come to the hospital to get checked out. Turns out it was amniotic fluid.
Guess the good thing about being on hospital bed rest until the babies come will be I won't have to worry about my water breaking in my house or in my car.

I was having contraptions while up late with DH. I felt a strong one, heard a pop, and ran to the toilet for a small gush. I had random gushes for hours after!

Mine broke with D when I got up in the middle of the night to pee. I was sitting right on the toilet, so it was nice timing!

Mine broke as we were leaving for the hospital for my contractions. I went to use the bathroom one last time before we left and thought it might have broken... But when we got to the hospital and my jeans were soaked I knew for sure.

I've heard of a lot of people (also outside of this forum) who have had their water break while they were going to the bathroom. Does that do something that makes it more likely to break, or more likely that you'll notice it, or is it just because women in the final stages of pregnancy spend significantly more time going to the bathroom than usual?
