I am not sure of the brand of ours, we got it on sale at Home Depot about 2 years ago, but it's fine. My #1 recommendation is get an UPRIGHT deep freezer (looks like a fridge, door opens like a fridge) vs. a deep chest freezer that you have to reach down in. It is soooo much easier to store stuff, know where stuff is, etc.!

We went the other direction and got a chest freezer. It is 5.1 cubic feet and just perfect for storing freezer meals and some big boxes of taquitos/pizzas.

We got ours at Sam's Club for about $100 on a black friday sale.

Chest freezers are better for long term storage because when you open the lid, the cold air stays in the freezer, versus a regular door freezer where all the cold air goes rushing out when you open it. So we keep the smaller stuff in our fridge/freezer and just keep the chest freezer well organized and full of the big bulky stuff.

we have a chest freezer, and while it can become a bottom less pit we generally stay on top of it by keeping it organized using plastic or cardboard boxes, and keeping an inventory.
I clean it out and defrost it once a year.
It can hold a tremendous amount of stuff. We freeze homemade jam, applesauce and pestos, store our local chicken, stocks, fresh picked berries, and then giant costco bags of frozen veggies/berries. Also back up stuff like bread, tortillas, left over soup. It makes shopping at costco much easier!

We had a freezer on bottom type fridge and I hated the "pit" feeling and digging in to. So we got an upright freezer for the garage. No regrets, love it.

I think maybe what might help is using it for your less-used items, that way even if you purchase an upright one, it will be opened less often and "lose" its cold less often.
