Are they paying you in cash/check? My friends and I use an app to transfer money, so they usually pay before the tickets are purchased.

Seeing as that's not useful in your situation (but maybe you can use it next time!), I'd probably send a group text before the next time we're all getting together and say, "Just a reminder, if you haven't paid me for the concert, bring your money tonight!" or something like that.

@aprild: I would send out a group email and say "Thanks for those that already sent me money, for everyone else please feel free to send it via PP (insert email) or mail me a check (address). Thanks and cant wait to hang out"

In my experience, when I pay for something for a friend, they forget about it until the actual event comes up. If I need the money sooner I just ask and it's never been a problem. I've done the same with friends with the situation has been reversed - if it isn't my job to buy the tickets I tend to forget that I have to pay for them until the event gets close and I realize I haven't done that yet.

Same as @erinbaderin: I pay for a lot of event tickets for friends/family and most won't think about it until the event. But if I put it on my credit card, I ask for the money before my card is due. I usually just text something like "Hey so and so! My credit card is due next week and I put our concert tickets on it. You're portion is $. Can I get a check from you sometime this week? Thanks!"

At the end of the month, I'd probably just be like hey everyone, just got my credit card statement and reminded me the tickets were on it. Can you all please paypal/venmo/send me a check?! It's not really asking for money in the typical sense, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I'd be like, "PS everyone, my Paypal address is xxxx@xxxx.com!"

I'm totally the worst at this. My BFFs and I see @2 Broadway shows together every year and I totally need reminders to pay my friends back. I never take offense when I get reminders, I'm just slow at this stuff and I totally push it to the back burner in my brain. I don't think my friends get offended either. (I pay within a month usually btw).

I also usually would assume I'd get paid on the day of the event. But I wouldn't be offended if I got a reminder that was like, "hey, here's your ticket and my paypal is ______".

We're usually the ones buying concert tix and the majority of people will pay us back at the actual event. I would maybe send a friendly FYI of the ticket price right before the event in case you think they may have forgotten about it.

i would also assume i had until the event to pay you back unless it was mentioned earlier. but for sure its not rude to ask for it earlier. but my first thought would be i just have to remember to pay them back before the event

I voted '3 weeks' but really I figure they owe you the money before your credit card is due, with a little buffer so you can deposit the money into your account and pay it by the due date. I would just send a reminder email requesting it by the end of the week or something (whatever timeframe you're comfortable with but not a long-ish time or they'll just forget again). I feel like that should be understood when you're fronting such a big expense, as long as they agreed you would be buying and they would be reimbursing beforehand.

I did this one time and will never again. Everyone paid me back on the day of the event and didn't pay me the $1 convenience charge b/c I used my CC although I clearly stated the full amount of the tickets after I bought them. Yep I wanted my $3!

If you can wait until the concert for the money I would suggest sending out a reminder the night before or morning of. You don't want your friends to show up empty-handed.

Do you have physical tickets that you will pick up? I would pick them up sooner rather than later, and text them saying "I picked up the tickets today and I'll give them to you the next time I see you. They came to $X. Thanks!"

If you don't have physical tickets, then I'd probably just be honest and text them before the next get together and say "Hey, would it be possible for you to bring the money for the tickets when I see you?" I can't see that being offensive at all.

I have a horrible memory so I might forget, but I'm usually pretty good and paranoid about paying people back. Although, if my friend gave me her paypal link, I would do it immediately. If she asked for cash, that would be a while because I hardly ever carry cash.

I'm really surprised that people think it's okay to pay back at the actual event when it is 5 months away, especially if you see them all the time. The OP would be the one forking over the money from her account.

I hate being in this situation- no one likes asking for money. But I find that if you care about paying someone back, you wouldn't be offended by a "hey do you have the money?" I think maybe the next time you guys are getting together, send out a group text the day before asking if you can get the cash from them. I don't know if it's because I'm now older, I have no problems straight up asking for the money.

A long time ago I bought concert tickets that were $120 each. My friend hadn't yet paid me and two weeks before the concert said she got better seats with a friend and decided to go with her again (yes I know wtf). My sis and I couldn't find anyone to go and we had to eat the cost.

I would shoot them an individual text! Something casual like "just heard artists song on the radio! So excited! Hey, btw Can you can get the money for the tickets to me soon? Thanks!"
