Are there any type of store bought games that are for 2-3 year olds? I know there are lots of games geared towards preschoolers but wondering if there are any simple ones for toddlers? I'm hoping to ask for a few as gifts even if she can't use them until she is closer to three. I was thinking maybe a simple memory game. I'm sure she wouldn't understand it very well but it would maybe be a good intro game for her. Any other thoughts?

@mrsjazz: I have the pattern blocks on her wish list, and just added the Sesame Street memory game. She loves Elmo and it looks like the pieces are a bit bigger than the original game? I think that will be good since she is only two.

@Bao: Yeah, the pieces are big. LO loves Elmo, too. She doesn't play the game as it's supposed to be played yet, but she does really love it. We just put them all down and she picks the matches (we don't turn the cards over). And they won't be bent easily!

My daughter likes memory and Zingo.
She has been playing with memory cards since she turned 2. At first we would just dump all the cards face-up on the floor and find that matches. Then we slowly transitioned to playing "correctly" with just a few pairs at a time. As she mastered playing with a few pairs, we added more, and so on, until now at almost 3 she plays with the whole set of cards.
She also started playing Zingo (http://www.amazon.com/Think-Fun-7700-ThinkFun-Zingo/dp/B00006408Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408672617&sr=8-1&keywords=zingo) at 2, though not completely following the rules. Now she plays per the instructions.

@owlmom: Great idea to start with just a few and add them in! Definitely going to try that after I teach her to match them face up
Zingo looks fun as well! I hope my kiddos like games, I always loved them as kids but these days everything is all techy.

@mrsjazz: Does your LO get frustrated with the pieces of the pattern game sliding around and not locking in place like a jigsaw puzzle or fitting in a slot like a peg puzzle? I've been thinking of adding the set you linked to LO's birthday wish list.

@owlmom: As of right now she doesn't mind it. Although she does think they are magically going to stick together at first. She's gotten used to it but she doesn't have the attention span to do a complete pattern yet. She'll do half of it and then move on to the next and then throw all the pieces!

@Bao: I did too! When LO is looking for something to do, I always suggest a game or puzzle first. DH hates board games, so I need LO to turn into my board game buddy!

My daughter loves puzzles, matching games, and flash cards. We've been able to use some of them in creative ways, before she is old enough to use them in their intended ways. For example, using her alphabet flash cards before she was actually interested in learning her letters, we would talk about the animals or the colors on the cards.
She also really likes playing with our Connect Four set. She doesn't play the game correctly yet, but it doesn't really matter. -
