Today I made our fist appt with the IVF doctor. Husband says he's excited which is good bc I'm scared sh--less. No specific reason for being scared, Maybe its not that I am scared but more anxious?
Were you scared / anxious prior to your first IVF doctors appointment?

well, we sorta built up to ivf. we did 3 rounds of clomid/iui, which didn't work so ivf was the next step for us. so we were definitely much more disappointed than scared or anxious. we had about 2 months break... so we had time to get very nervous. anxious, and excited at the same time. we were anxious that it wouldn't work. then we were scared that the pregnancy wouldn't stick (we got pregnant on the first, fresh cycle). now we're 14 weeks and we're finally starting to get more excited than anxious. =) i don't think the anxiousness is ever going to fully go away until the babies are born. and even then, i bet you will always be worried about your kids, right? i guess it never ends!

I didn't do IVF but I can say I was more anxious/afraid every time I took my progesterone shots and then giddy/freaked out every time we did the deed on our fertile days. It was really a blizzard of emotions thinking that I was purposefully trying to create a life.
It's intense to feel that kind of power, hope and in some cases fear. Good luck though and just try to enjoy the experience.

How did your appointment go? We're ramping up to do IVF in Las Vegas (from Seattle) in December and I'm also scared sh*tless. I know that it'll be a good thing in the end but the unknown in whatever situation is scary. Lots of luck to you!

Ladies thank you so so much for your kind words!!!! Today was the day, and, let me just tell you they get right up in there! What we thought was going to be a consult, timeline, learn details, walk you through the process, etc...was instead: ultra sound, putting this camera thingy in your yoni [yo - knee, aka va-jayjay] measuring ovaries, uterus, seeing egg count, taking blood tests for Ashkenazi Jewish diseases, etc.. - it was our starting process, and it was great!!! We are thrilled with our doctor. We'll begin meds and shots in January. If anyone has any question please don't hesitate asking - I am more than happy to help in all ways I can!!!

@filly - wow, i don't remember my first consultation being that.... detailed haha. glad it went well! good luck with the meds and shots! definitely not fun stuff, but so worth it when you get your baby/ies... did you decide how many you're going to put in?

@Filly: So glad the appt well, you like your doc, and you can move forward in January! Get used to that ultrasound wand - you'll be up close and personal with it every other day once you start ivf I'm so desensitized to drs being all up in my kitchen now! And honestly, I don't think the shots are all that bad, especially since I make hubby give them. It's actually something that we can tangibly do together to further the process along, and I kind of like that aspect. Do you have to do anything else between now and January?

@merryc - - funny the dr said the same thing. I was just so incredibly shocked that I couldn't believe this was our consult when it felt more like our first real appointment. I mean, I didn't understand why they would do all of that stuff now and not when we're ready to begin in 2012. yeah the hubs is going to administer my shots too And between now and January - well kinda. We are doing PGD / IVF so the PGD testing needs to be completed which will be done by December. Then I didn't want to be on meds and shots during the holidays, its already an emotional enough time for us, so January is our start =)

@filly - my husband injected my shots for me but there were 2 times where i had to do it myself. OMG it was SOOOO hard getting over the stabbing of myself with a needle. it happened with 2 different kinds of shot. the first one, took forever because i just couldn't bring myself to do it and finally just did it. the 2nd time was a different med and i think the needle was thicker, so it took like 3 jabs for me to get it in.

@tequuiero21 - - oh gosh, i don't know if i can do it alone. i am such a baby. if my hubs isn't available [which i am sure there will be a time he won't be] i think i'll ask our neighbor [hoping she is available, ha!] as she's a nurse

@Filly - I think it's really wise to avoid the holidays. We definitely wanted to plan our cycle well before or after the month of Thanksgiving to Christmas. More busy, more emotional, and I would worry about the medical staff being distracted. Here's to lots of healthy ivf babies arriving in 2012!

@Filly I just started IVF yesterday! The injections aren't that bad. My husband and I took probably 40 minutes getting two shots together last night, but I bet within 3-4 days we'll be down to 5 minutes! And this morning I stabbed myself (he sleeps later than me during the week) and was so proud. I didn't think I'd be able to do it, but I did it. (My backup plan was to wake him up) It really isn't that bad! I'm glad your appt. went well and you are getting ready to start in January!!

We found out after almost a year of trying that my hubby's SA is very poor and I have PCOS. Doesnt help that we are both 35 either. Well 2 weeks ago we foudn out his third SA had slightly improved so we are doing our frist ever Clomid IUI. Just found out today that tomorrow is the big day! I am nervous and excited. He does not think it is going to work and we will have to resort to IVF but I am trying to stay positive!

@filly: We just our first IF apt today. Went well; it was very similar to yours. We are starting right away...getting some initial testing done now and going full-force in December. Eeep! Nervous, scared and excited all at once. Hit me up if you ever want to "compare notes". Good luck!!
