A new couple is moving in next door soon. They are pregnant with their first child. I'd love to bring them a nice welcome note and gift. What are your suggestions or what gifts have you really enjoyed?
We live in a foodie town--I was thinking about locally made olive oil, vinegar and a loaf of bread? I'd love to hear fresh ideas or spin-offs of this!

Honestly, anything! We moved a few months ago and the next door neighbors came by with brownies- from a box, I'm pretty sure, but it was sooo nice and unexpected. Another neighbor brought homemade pound cake that week. Your idea of bread and the oil and vinegar sounds amazing, but I think anything would be appreciated.

This is so thoughtful - I wish someone had done this for us when we moved recently! If they are new to the town in general, business cards from some of your favorite stores where you're buying the food would be really nice. I would love to have a list of all the "best of...." places in our new town without having to constantly feel like I'm hitting the other school moms up for info. If you're willing to be a sounding board for "new to town" questions, let them know that and offer your phone number or email address in your note!

Our neighbours brought us a box of homemade cookies with a card with all their contact information. It was super nice of them and I really appreciated it.

We usually make homemade muffins and deliver those with a pound of local coffee and a card.

Your idea is great! I also like the idea of giving them some takeaway/restaurant and food info..It will definitely be something they'll need!

I'm gluten free, so I usually prefer plants over baked goods.
Any suggestions you can make about the local area could be really helpful. And I second offering your contact info. It's so awkward to ask for it, but it so nice to have when you need it!
Also, I'd try to do more than just "welcome" them. Make a point to say hello regularly, and maybe host a small get together with other neighbors (if they're also neighborly). Our immediate next door neighbors didn't give us a "gift" when we moved in, but they invited us to a few parties/wine nights with other people in the cul de sac. That's really made our experience here so much more welcoming.

When we moved into our condo the other owners put together a really cute basket with fresh pasta, sauce, oil and bread from a local shop that they really liked. It was super sweet of them!
