I'm struggling with gift ideas for my nephew. He's four, will be 5 in January. My SIL only put clothes on his Christmas list (which I totally get) but I want him to have something "fun" from us, also. He has a 2 year old brother, also. Any suggestions?

Based on what my 4-year-old nephew likes, I'd suggest:
- cars
- trains
- superhero costumes
- Lego
- puzzles
- books -
I'm doing pirate dress up pieces (headband-like Jake the Pirate, eye patch, inflatable swords, maps, and coins). Last year I got them a cape and mask for superheroes and they loved it!
Edit: Nephews/Niece ages range from 6 years to 6 months.

Dress up stuff is awesome. My nephew that age loves capes and swords.
The thing he asks me for most is a bubble gun (the kind that shoot automatically when you hold down the "trigger") and that might be fun for a two year old to see the bubbles (but he also keeps asking me for them because his little siblings do things like put it in water or break it in other ways. they're inexpensive so I just keep buying them)
Or, last year I got him a hat with a beard attached. He thought it was so fun! (his older brother behind him got a bendable moustache)

@Bao: @photojane: @Willow: @MaryM: these are all awesome ideas! I ran them by SIL and she's in the "no small pieces" camp so I guess that rules out Legos. I'm tempted to still get him a small set though! And I definitely think some dress up pieces will be great!

My SIL also hates small pieces, but if I give a gift that comes in its own container, sometimes she doesn't mind so much.
