If you already bought a gift for a shower/sprinkle (with no registry info) and you received a group text from the hostess (not the mother to be) 3 days before to NOT buy what you already bought (clothes)....would you gift it anyways or exchange it before the event? Just curious!

I'd gift it anyways. I don't think people should dictate what another person gifts. Just out of curiosity - what did the hostess tell you to buy if not clothes? I think little gifts like clothes are the only appropriate thing for a sprinkle/second shower.

I would probably exchange, or give her the clothes with a gift receipt, so she can exchange it herself. I think that's rude that she's telling you what not to buy her.

@autumnlove: Cash? That's really rude! Who requests cash at a shower? I think even requesting gift cards can be borderline rude, since most people enjoy actually picking out and buying presents themselves.

My school of thought is if I'm giving someone a gift, I get to decide what that gift is! I say gift the clothes.

I'd probably exchange. But I'd totally be rolling my eyes! In full disclosure though my opinion on baby showers and clothes is that people need to just get over it and be grateful.

Ugh, a text telling you what to buy is rude. I'd probably be annoyed about the text and having to make an extra trip to return and so gift it anyway, with the gift receipt, and say you'd already bought it before you got the message about preferences.

Ugh, they texted telling you not only what NOT to buy, but requesting cash when dictating what TO gift? Nope, I wouldn't go out of my way to exchange the gift. If you're feeling generous, leave the tags on/attach a gift receipt.

I usually request a gift receipt so I would gift it and include the gift receipt.

I think it is really rude but I'd probably return the clothes and pick up a box of diapers if it was convenient enough. I'd just want to gift something they wanted so it wouldn't go to waste but I'd be a bit turned off.

I think thats pretty rude especially with such short notice. I would probably see if I could return it painlessly or I would give the gift and a small pack of diapers or something with it.

if i have a shower it will say
"gifts not needed, but if you can't handle how cute baby clothes are, please start with a bigger than newborn size"
or something like that. but i digress.

As a planner, 3 days notice is too late I would already have a gift bought. I would give the clothes with a gift receipt. I think it is ok to note diapers etc are appreciated but that text and asking for gift cards and cash is too much.

Gift it. If you don't have a gift receipt, i would just write on the tag where it came from.
My former coworkers threw me a completely surprise sprinkle. I was so touched. But a lot of them got me clothes. (LO1 is 3 but different gender) in newborn sizes. This one newer mom wrote on the tag where it came from and it was appreciative so I could return it if I wanted to for store credit or something.
