I told DD1 that the next holiday coming up is Valentine's Day and now she asks me every day if it's Valentine's Day lol Does your LO have a calendar or do any activities to help them grasp the concept of dates and holidays?

They have a calendar at pre-school where they recite the date. We also just put a Frozen calendar on the back of her door but haven't really paid much attention to the dates on it yet.

My nephew's parents are divorced and he crosses each day on the calendar at the end of the day, and that helps him understand mommy and daddy days. I bet you could take a similar approach, showing her how many boxes are left to cross out until Valentine's Day (my DDs birthday!)

For my LO today = right now, tomorrow = any day in the future, and yesterday = any day in the past We have some work to do.

@lawbee11: same! She says yesterday in reference to something we did months ago.

@lawbee11: haha I was literally just telling my mom that my LO does the same thing! At least they're kind of close?

@fancyfunction: a Frozen calendar would be a giant hit at our house!

@lawbee11: DS does the same. Not yesterday the other yesterday, I hear quite often.

We actually had a Frozen calendar last year! LO used it regularly for at least six months. This year she has a generic giveaway from the Asian grocery store but LO is so possessive of it. I asked her if I could write the menu on it tonight and she adamantly refused. She faithfully puts a check mark on each day that passes.

We're having this issue with birthdays at the moment. She wanted more presents after Christmas and we told her the next present event was her birthday. She asks every day! Lol

DD is 3 and doesn't use a calendar. We tell her the number of sleeps she has to do before a big event occurs. If it's far away we just tell her it's "lots and lots" of sleeps away until it's close enough that she can understand the number.
