I need some shopping help! I'm looking for a new down puffer vest for fall. I would like it to be a dark jewel tone - navy/olive/burgundy/plum, decent quality, and relatively (ok, quite) slim fitting. I want a fairly traditional "coat" material (I don't want wool/corduroy) that is somewhat water repellent, and don't care about hood vs.no hood. I own a uniqlo ultra light down vest and like it, but was going for something different this time. Furry hoods/fleece linings are fine but not required - I'm looking for a balance of fashion and function.

Not sure what your price point is, but I have the long sleeved jacket version of this vest and it is awesome. It is very warm without being bulky, and it packs down pretty small for travel. I would love to have the vest too.

@NCSUchick27: thanks! My kids have the long sleeve versions, too. I've looked at it for myself, but am debating whether it might be a little sporty for what I want (I can see myself wearing it when I'm wearing running tights, but not sure about skinny jeans) - would you wear it out with jeans?

I would definitely wear it with jeans, but when I wear jeans I am usually pretty casual. I wear my down sweater jacket with jeans all the time, and it looks fine. My jacket is kind of a plum color.

@oliviaoblivia: thanks! I hadn't checked j crew (I don't have a physical store nearby), and I agree that the rounded hem makes it look a lot more tailored.
@sunny: thank you! Gap is usually my go to but I'm not loving the colors this year (well....I love the cream but my girls would have me covered in berries/paint in no time). Maybe they'll come out with more colors when the true winter clothes come out, or maybe I can find one from a prior season in another color on eBay or something!

I love the couple I have from JCrew. Had them for years and still look great. Old Navy and Gap ones are showing their age.

Lands End has some interesting options. I have an older model that is the true puffer style, with the horizontal stitching and down filling. It came with a self belt, but I'll be honest, I bought the wrong color! I should have gotten a darker color, instead I bought ivory and it just makes me look like a marshmallow.
I am trying another style this year, more streamlined and in dark green, also from LE.

I have one that sounds like what you're looking for (deep red, slim fitting, warm) from Ralph Lauren. I got it several years ago though, so not sure if they have the same ones still. But, another place to check out.
