My SIL made Paula Deen's version the one time we hosted Thanksgiving, and it was delicious!

We just do canned green beans and can of cream of mushroom soup. I have tried adding milk before and I didn't think it added anything. My Mom puts the canned fried onions on top the last couple mins of baking but I don't like them.

This is how I do it, not too fancy.
2 cans cut green beans
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1 cup (?) French's fried onions
Cut up or shredded Cooked Chicken - seasoned liberally with salt and pepper. I usually use about 3 chicken thighs.
Mix it all in a lasagna pan. Cover with foil. Bake for 20 min or so until the soup is bubbly.

I also use the recipe on the container of onions. It's a classic - it was my favorite as a kid and still is.

I made it once without a can of soup....from scratch...and it was amazing.

I don't care for cream of whatever soups, so I made this version for Thanksgiving last year: http://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-green-bean-casserole-from-scratch-recipes-from-the-kitchn-180127#. It was a fair amount of work but tasted amazing. I did use French's onions rather than frying my own, though

@avivoca: The recipe on the French's fried onions container is the best!

We also follow the French's Fried Onion container but we also add a few tablespoons of soy sauce to the mushroom soup for taste. This is a secret family trick. *Looks around to see if any family is reading this* J/K One of my friends did this and it made it taste so much better that now we do it and we always get complimented on our version.

We use the recipe on the back of the Del Monte green bean can...which has everyone's secret family recipe ingredient of soy sauce in it.

@Mrs. Bee: Yes! My parents never do Green Bean Casserole, but after the Thanksgiving we hosted and my SIL bringing this dish, my mom had to make it the next year because it was so delicious!

Back of the Frenchs Fried Onions can but my DH makes it with Velveeta added in as well!

I like the most generic standard version with no funny business with my green bean casserole
3-4 cans cut green beans
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1 cup (?) French's fried onions mixed in, more on top
a little milk
lots of pepper

I agree with the French's recipe being the best! Although, full disclosure, it may largely be nostalgia driving my love for it. If you've never had green bean casserole, you might prefer the fancier, made-from-scratch versions. I'll admit I'm usually a snob about wanting to make things from scratch, but there's something just so comforting about the good old French's green bean casserole

Another vote for the French's recipe! It's my favorite food on Thanksgiving!
Wow, Thanksgiving isn't that far away!
