When and why are these done?
I never had one with Chloe but I'm seeing lots of posts on growth ultrasounds! Are they common? Should I expect one?

I had several because I had GD. Don't know the other reasons you would get one though!
Also, mine was really off - they were expecting, based on my U/S at 37 weeks that LO would be around 7.5 lbs at birth (scheduled section at 38 + 5). She was 5.5 lbs

I had two with Olivia. My belly was measuring way small each time so they were concerned. Turned out she was just really squished and I have a long torso, so she had room to go upward!

I've been wondering this too! I thought I would have some because I'm on Lovenox, but so far (36w), none. Maybe my doc will mention something at tomorrow's appointment.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I had them done with B because I had some wonky blood work results.

My belly (fundal) height was consistently measuring ahead for a few appointments so they scheduled one.

I had them with both my daughters. In both cases I had interuterine growth restriction, with my first it was caught around 32 weeks when I went for a "for fun" 3D ultrasound and the tech mentioned my placenta was looking very mature. My second one was monitored with growth ultrasounds from 30 weeks on due to my history of IUGR with the first one. Normally I think my OB's practice would be to give you one if your fundal height is measuring more than 3 cms off.....not to scare anyone, but both my babies had IUGR, and the most I ever measured off was 2.5 cms, so not sure it's always an accurate predictor.

I had one at 37 weeks with my older son because I was measuring large. With my younger son, I had ultrasounds weekly starting at 32 weeks because of gestational diabetes. They checked his size every other week.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I had them every other ultrasound (so every 4 weeks). Their comparative size was one thing they looked at for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, so that's why we had them.

Not having to have them is usually a good thing I had then because of suspected placenta issues.

I had one at 34 weeks, because all of a sudden my fundal height measurement jumped like crazy. I grew 4 cm in like a week. But everything was fine!

I had them for GD as well. I expect we will have that conversation again at my next appt now that I have GD a second time.

I had quite a few, as well as a few fetal echocardiagrams, because I had SUA (single umbilical artery), a condition that is associated with slower fetus growth and potential cardiac/liver/kidney issues. Lucikly my LO was fine!

I was supposed to have one at 36ish weeks, because I had been measuring large, but I ended up going into labor at 35.5 weeks, so never got around to it! Turned out Q was 6 lbs 10 oz and exactly a month early, so he probably would have been pretty big, but not crazy huge if he was born on time.

I had a dating ultrasound because of irregular periods. I don't think I had a growth one. Actually maybe I did at 36 weeks. I can't remember what that was for.

With three pregnancies, I've had at least three. With each pregnancy I had different OB/GYN's, and for two of them it was because I was measuring big. With my most recent pregnancy, I was still measuring big, but that practice just does a growth sonogram at 36 weeks for everyone.
I don't like those sonograms because it looks like the baby is all squished inside and I couldn't even get a clear picture.

I have them because I had RnY surgery 4 years ago so they just want to check that baby is growing okay. Also this time they suspected SUA at my first ultrasound and needed to recheck (which, thankfully, I didn't have).

I had one at 36 weeks. I think it's just standard for my OB though, I didn't have any special circumstances.

I had them with both pregnancies. First time I was measuring more than 3 weeks behind and he was determined to be IUGR/SGA . Second time to make sure there wasn't IUGR.

i measured normally and had nothing abnormal, so the only U/Ss I got were dating and anatomy.

I'll have them in the third trimester because my baby has SUA (Single Umbilical Artery), and we need to monitor growth. I'd say NOT needing them is a good thing

I had one at 37 weeks with #1 because he was measuring big, then dropped and measured too small. All was fine.
I switched practices, but never needed one with #2, everything measured right on track.

I had one at 38 weeks because my OB thought the baby was measuring big and wanted to check his size. And my OB was right - the growth ultrasound showed he was right around 9 lbs and when he was born a week later, he was 8 lbs 14 oz.

I had one at 32 wks with T because when I had preterm labor at 30w they did an ultrasound and found he was small. At 32 weeks he was still small but was growing. I didn't have another Bc I was on bed rest til 37w and they concluded his parents are small so He would be small.

Just talked to nurse about that this morning - typically she said it would only be if the measurement was off - either too small or too large compared to an average measurement.
