My 8 yr old wants his hair to be lighter - I don't want to bleach it and was wondering if sun-in or something like that might work for him?
Any brown haired folks out there have success with something like this?

I have medium-to-dark brown hair and used Sun-in in middle school (so, probably 20 years ago...) and it was DISASTEROUS. My hair was orange, and it didn't fade, I just had to wait for it to grow out. As a 12-year-old girl, it was awful. If your son's hair is short, it wouldn't take forever to grow out, and there's an excellent chance they've improved the formula in the last 20 years...but my recommendation based on personal experience is to use something other than Sun-in

I would just use some lemon juice in wet hair and then go out to play!

Are you near the ocean too? I find that the salty ocean water seems to help lighten hair too, especially being in the sun all day

@Mamaof2: this is an actual thing, haha... i wasn't sure but I knew the ocean water helped! and if you're not near the sea you can make your own.
