DS and DD will be dinos for halloween this year. I want to make these costumes with green and blue sweatshirts. Should I order coordinating sweatshirts and leggings from Primary (sweatshirt = $22) or something like Gildan sweatshirts off Amazon for $14 and try to find leggings that sort of match?

I would definitely go cheaper, unless they will actually wear the leggings again anyway. But if you go cheaper, what if you alternate the sweatshirt and leggings colors, like do green sweatshirt with blue leggings and blue and green spikes on the back, then blue sweatshirt with green leggings and blue and green spikes?
Or I bet you could find matching ones at Walmart or something? I’d only pay up for primary if you’ll get real use out of them.
And that’s a super cute costume! I love it.

If I'm sewing stuff onto something that i can't easily remove for a Halloween costume I go with cheap. With the leggings, since those could be used again, I'd buy the brand I prefer, since the disposable clothing thing makes me uncomfortable (but I totally do it for costumes when needed).
The color match really won't matter, especially since the sweatshirt is oversized. I like the idea of green leggings, too!

Eh. I'm totally on the side of going cheaper UNLESS you plan on wearing the clothes as regular clothes after!

Check Kohl's jumping beans line. They have a lot of matching tops/bottoms. I needed light purple tee and leggings. They were $4/pc. They had hoodies in the same color too. I'd definitely go cheap!

Just had flashbacks of when Dd was a dinosaur for a school performance and I spent four hours sewing a dinosaur tail to velcro on. Lol. If only i found the no sew method. Cheapest unless you will use it after. I picked up a ninja costume at walmart for under $5 on Labor Day weekend. She has been wearing it regularly.

@meadow: I would do Primary bc I LOVE PRIMARY haha and I would know the kids can wear the items all year! I try to do that too for my son's halloween costume. This year he will be Mickey Mouse and I ordered the shorts and ears on etsy but the rest will be a black shirt he owns, black leggings, and yellow shoes he owns!

Both pairs of leggings will absolutely go into the rotation for DD. The sweatshirts will be fun to wear - but probably not for much of anything real since they will be so big. Unless my kids think dinos are still cool when they are in like 1st grade..haha.

@futuremama: Thanks for the tip - I forgot about Kohls (Even thought I just spent like $100 on myself there recently!). I had browsed target last week for cheap sweatshirts. But everything had a print.

@meadow: if you will actually use the leggings again, how much extra is the primary sweayshirt vs a cheap one? And how much will it bother you if it doesn’t match? If you are going through the trouble of making them, you should love the final result.
