What does your LO wear if they are able to dress up one day at school?
Dd1 asked to be rapunzel this year-fluffy dress and long locks. I don't really want to send her for a full day of school in a costume that is just asking to be stained/torn. But she loves being a princess and I don't want her to feel left out on costume day either. Thinking that I may send her in her rapunzel pj dress as an alternative? (haha, is that tacky?)

@MrsRoo: We have a princess obsessed 3 year old. I bought her a handful of "costumes" last year. So she is wearing one to school and one to trick or treat. Her school starts their halloween part after nap so they are only in it from 2:30pm on...

@MrsRoo: our DCP parties are from 3:30 until you leave - so they don't wear the costume all day - check with your DCP as this may be the same for you

On "dress like a Disney character/superhero" day, the kids went in their costumes and stayed in them all day. So she wore her Cinderella dress all day long and loved it. I don't care if it gets messed up because she's only little once and it wasn't terribly expensive.

@Mrs D: @Mamaof2: oh, good point! It only says Halloween costumes in the calendar with no details, so maybe they are only doing it for part of the day.
@avivoca: if it wasn't 2 days before trick or treating I probably wouldn't worry about it as much! But I want her costume to last at least through the day it was meant for- if she wears it on the playground it'll get ruined for sure.

@MrsRoo: Yeah, H isn't going to be a princess for halloween, she's going to be Skye from Paw Patrol. So we'll wear the costume for trick or treat before she wears it to school. It's a vest and a tutu with leggings and a white shirt under it, all things she can wear again and I can wash (except maybe the tutu).

Our daycare has them change into them at 4pm for a Harvest Party that parents can attend. That way they aren't in their costume all day and anyone that doesn't want them to participate can pick their kids up before the party.

I don't think sending her in her Rapunzel night gown is tacky. I have seen tons of little girls walking around in those night gowns at Disneyland. They are cheaper and way less scratchy!

@Mrs. Train: thanks for that! if it turns out they only dress up for part of the day I may send her with the actual costume. But definitely nightgown if they stay dressed up all day!

@MrsRoo: wear the pj dress! When I worked at daycare a lot of parents dressed their kids in a "daycare Halloween" outfit and they saved the nice outfit for trick or treating. I feel like no one cares what you wear to school or daycare when you're little!

@Mrs. Goose: awesome, thank you! If you can't tell, this is our first year at daycare. I was worried about DD feeling left out if she came in a daycare friendly costume and all her little friends came in their full on princess costumes. But glad to hear that a lot send kids in more play friendly outfits.

It's not s big deal. Ours are usually regular clothes costumes. But most kid come in dressed then they go around the business park trick or treating. After that the teachers change the kids into regular clothes if you bring it in and ask them to.

I send my kids in plan b costumes. Costumes that I don't care if they get ripped or tripped up or Halloween cake on. Funny(ish) story, last year I slaved over making my daughter a beetlejuice black/white striped suit and our first Halloween activity of the season she vomited all over it. Twice. So our plan b costume for her got a lot of use because I was paranoid it would happen again.

@anonysquire: haha, oh no! That's what I'm afraid of even though I didn't make her costume this year. Saw your beetlejuice costume in another thread and LOVE it, btw. Awesome job!
