I'm under the impression that a false negative on any test is rare/impossible.
ETA: I just realized we're talking false negatives not false positives lol. Obviously my brain wasn't awake yet. False negatives happen all the time, false positives are what are rare/impossible.
False negatives can happen if you test too early.

I got several negatives before my BFP with DD, but I think it was actually because I ovulated super late so my levels weren't high enough yet... She was our little miracle who shouldn't really have been here

Not me, but my SIL never got a positive on a HPT with either of her children.

I did get a negative but it was too early to test! Got a positive a couple days later.

False positives are extremely rare. False negatives may indicate you tested too early.
Apparently if a guy pees on a stick and gets a positive it can indicate cancer....

I was under the impression that false negatives are fairly normal since there's a range of time that it can take for the egg to implant and enough of the hormone to be released for a pregnancy test to pick it up. And I've heard of some crazy circumstances where people don't get a positive until super late in the pregnancy, but that's pretty darn rare.

Yes. I got a positive on one at 10dpo, and a false negative the next day at 11. Freaked me out, but I *was* pregnant.
