@Bao: I get alot of people telling me to let her CIO too. Usually people my age. Older people (like my mom's generation) think CIO is nuts. But they're old school so they never heard of the pros/cons of doing it. I thought I would be pro CIO before having kids. But now...i just can't doooo iiiiit!! I'm weak sauce.

@zippylef: Out of curiosity what is it you don't agree with AP?
I said kinda... I was pretty crunchy before HB but HB has provided a lot of support which is great since so many people think I'm crazy IRL. A couple of my friends tease me so much because I eat mostly organic and mostly GF/paleo.
I also had decided on CD, was open to cosleeping and planned to babywear before joining HB but being here has encouraged me for sure.
Oh and I had a natural childbirth of my own volition. I actually think there is not that many HBers who have med-free births which is totally fine but that is definitely more "crunchy" too.
@.twist.: I don't think of crunchy as hippie, though there are hippies who are crunchy. I think of it more as natural, organic and green.

@Mrs. Pen: To be honest, Id rather not say. I dont want to offend and I think its bound to start an argument.

@septemberlove: Me too!
I don't think I'm crunchy at all.... But love learning from those of you who are. I do plan on making my own baby food if that counts?

I love the crunchy yuppie combo. I'm probably fit that description! I live in a town that is filled to the brim with them.
But I agree with others that HB doesn't seem too crunchy to me. I also hang out on a different parenting site whose uniting theme is crunchy/hippie/whole living. So there you find women who write about dreaming of living off the grid. They don't vaccinate at all, will have unassisted births, eat their placentas, have lotus births, and much more! So HB seems much more moderate to me.

I think I'm still one of the lesser crunchy peeps on HB (more yuppy for sure, lol), but I appreciate the support on here A LOT. Especially for things like BF'ing. My mom never breastfed (She thinks it's gross!) and she was super negative when she found out that I'm planning to BF. I scolded her about it months ago and haven't heard anything about it, but she gets here today for 2 weeks, and yesterday when I mentioned being out buying nursing tanks, she said "I don't expect you to do THAT for very long...." So I had to re-scold her that BF'ing is hard and I don't plan on giving up, and I don't need to hear comments like that when I'm in the throes of nipple rawness and pain. I don't think I'd feel so strongly about BF'ing or be as "prepared" for the uphill battle in store for me if not for the ladies on here. I appreciate the crunchy assistance and support:)
Oh and HB did introduce me to Baby Wearing....But I have to admit that the cuteness of discovering Comfy Joey slings on here is what pushed me over the edge and decide to do it...
Crunchy can be cute = one of the first lessons I learned on HB!

@Minnie_Girl: Real hippie or perceived hippie?
I would have to ask my mom... but I know she would mention showers.

I think it has made me more informed. I live in a very conservative part of the country and stuff like CD'ing, BLW, babywearing is unheard of...just because I think people don't know about it. I love the fact my pediatrician is really well-versed, because I bring up stuff like BLW to her and it's not a big deal.
@princessbaby can't wait to see lil' H! I wore my comfy joey today to take pics in with DS.

Nope, I feel like I was already 'lipstick crunchy'! I CD, baby wear (not all the time tho!), compost, make my own bread, heck, we even buy portions of a cow from a local farmer! But I also love shopping, and wouldn't make my own laundry detergent if someone paid me to!

I was first introduced to the cloth diaper and natural birthing world from WB posters who are now here. But we were on our way to semi-crunchy/chewy...we just didn't know anyone IRL that was going in the same direction.
