DH and I have never been and I'm thinking of taking him to one on Friday for his birthday. Have you been to one? Would you recommend it?

I really like it, I've been to one in Portland several times and one in Vegas. It's a fun interactive dining experience, perfect for a birthday. But you have to like meat, a lot.

Yes, I've been a few times. I like them for something different, and they generally have really good salad bars. A tip though is to go light on the salad and save room for all the different meats!

Yes!! Such a fun experience. Agreed on going light on salad bar until you have experienced a good amount of the meat.

We are on our way to one for our anniversary! We have only been once before. I am so ready to stuff my face!

Yes, it is super fun! There are so many different kinds of meats that are all delicious. Definitely go when you're hungry

No, I haven't. It sounds yummy though all I can think about is Bridesmaids.

Yes, we went to one in NYC twice. Once on our honeymoon and once for our anny. So good!

Haven't been yet, but we are trying to go next month because of all the great things we have heard from family and friends.

Yes! Love!! We go to one every time we go to Miami or Mexico because all the cooks really know how to get things done. You may experience the same in TX.
Anyway- we have one in town that is nice and we love going there for every birthday, anniversary and holiday!!

Yes! So good! Heed the advice of previous posters and don't fill up on the salad bar first. They make it tempting so that you don't eat as much meat (which is really what you're paying for)
If they have it definitely order the farofa. (Fried manioc flour that goes so well with the meat).
Picanha is my favorite cut They definitely start at the "cheaper" cuts of meat and work their way up (thought they are still good). They'll try to fill you up on chicken and stuff wrapped in bacon but what you really want is the picanha and other cuts at the end

Yes, it was a fun experience. Definitely don't fill up on the salad bar/bread, and maybe don't eat for 24 hours before you go either

Yep, even in Brazil So yummy. And if you go, order the Brazillian soda Guarana.

@Leialou: yes! So good! Next time my husband said he isn't going to eat all day so he can eat more

Yes! We love Brazilian bbq.
If you have a Fogo de Chao close by you should check it out!

@Leialou: are you considering a chain? We have been to one in the DFW area several times we enjoy. Bring your appetite.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
Thanks guys! I made a reservation for Friday. I'm excited!
@MamaG: I looked at three places and I think the one I chose isn't a chain. I'm not sure about that though. I chose it because the reviews say they offer some more unique options than the other two places.

Texas de Brazil is the place we have been to several times. It's very good, but we always end up feeling a little miserable from overeating.

yes. you really have to love meat to get the full enjoyment out of it.

Yup! We went to Fogo De Chao for our anniversary and it was delicious! We had a great experience

OMG, love Brazilian steakhouses. Go hungry! Unfortunately, the nearest one to us closed so the next closest is an hour away.

They are delicious and so much fun! DH looooves them. I hope you guys have a good time!

@Leialou: Yes! Super delicious Don't fill up on the salad bar though! Also, they typically bring out the "best" cuts of meat last. Enjoy!
pomegranate / 3779 posts
@Leialou: Fogo de Chao is good, but overpriced compared to other options in Houston (and not as good as some of the non-chain options according to my Brazilian coworker.)

One more tip... Brazillians only go to these places for lunch, its too big of a meal for dinner. I've been craving it for a while, but we usually don't go out to a big meal for lunch so it hasn't happened.
Also, grilled cheese, mmmmm. Most places don't serve it though.

@mrs.shinerbock: That's good to know! We're going to Facon.
pomegranate / 3904 posts
@Leialou: I didn't realize that you are also in Houston! We went to one the other night, I'm blanking on the name, but I haven't heard of Facon.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@LAZB: Yep! I've been in Houston for 6 years now. I think the restaurant is towards Spring.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@Leialou: Two words: meat. coma.
Use the salad bar as a condiment to all the meat. A "palate cleanser" as it were.
And go ridiculously hungry.

We love, love Brazilian steakhouses! My DH is a meat eater so that would be his restaurant of choice. We go to Fogo de Chao or Texas de Brazil. The salad bar is quite delicious too.

Mmmmmmm, the Picanha or bottom sirloin is my favorite!! And the plantains OMG! I take my DH to these at least once a month, usually lunch as its cheaper
Have fun and go hungry!

If you love meat then yes!! I've been several times, but a long time ago b/c I no longer can eat that much meat. It's def a fun experience that you have to try at least once!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Yup! And we're fans!! Some are better than others though so read up reviews on Yelp before going!
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
Yup, we went for DH's birthday last year. Something we only do once a year, but it was fun. Our only complaint was we couldn't really talk because someone was always walking around with another meat to try. We were trying to have a date night but it was hard to connect with a 3rd person constantly at our table.
pear / 1556 posts
Yes! I love them! Like others have said, it's good if you are a meat lover.
